In 1993 Yamaha replaced the OW01 production racer with the YZF750SP. 500 of which were made to meet the World Superbike Championship's homologation requirements. Differences between the standard R model and the SP were many. among the most obvious being the latter's single seat. adjustable suspension and Keihin flat-slide carburettors. while inside the engine there were different cams and valve gear and a close-ratio gearbox.
