This silver/gold trim 1981 Yamaha XS 850 with unbelievably low miles is for sale in the St. Louis. Mo. area. This shaft-driven bike was "born and raised" in Colorado but has been brought down to low altitude. Title is clean but remains titled in Colorado (even though it is garaged in Missouri) ?ˆ” still an easy transfer. Speaking of. the bike was garaged its entire life. including a temperature controlled environment for most of the past 5+ yearsI am the third owner: I never met the first owner. but the second owner was an avid rider who regularly maintained the bike. He told me the first owner did the same. but I cannot verify that. I had the bike maintained semi-regularly (tried to do most myself but I'm no expert). and had the engine cylinders rebuilt in 2013 to the tune of $1. 00. Flying Tiger in Maplewood. Mo. did the work and they should have the records if you want to investigate (VIN listed above). Though I have tried selling this motorcycle in the past under the Buy-It-Now option. I never received the right offer. So I am now subjecting it to the whims of the free market auction method (albeit with a reserve price).  I must admit that I don't have the first eBay posting and don't remember what I identified as might be "wrong" with the bike. but I'm trying to remember and list it here as I do not want any confusion with potential buyers. There is a small oil leak from the engine that drips on the tailpipe and smokes a bit. Flying Tiger was supposed to mitigate this. and I assume they did. but it is still present. The front fender has a small "bruise". Tires seem in good condition but are definitely 5+ years old (not much mileage. just age). Pipes are smooth but not pristine. The shaft and the pipes both show signs of metal discoloration. a concern I would imagine. but I would also imagine repairable. The fuel tank (internally) appears clean; fuel stabilizer regularly kept in the tank. The external portion of the fuel tank is in very good condition. with a few small nicks (smooth. but the paint is . chipped?). The Yamaha medallion is also faded. The king and queen seat has a small tear in it. but it is not visible unless one is looking for it. Also. the bike idles a little rough but I think it is because it was not properly jetted for low-altitude.  I also don't want to promise that the clutch is "fine" as in the past I have gotten a ton of questions re: whether the transmission sticks between 1st and 2nd (or even 2nd and 3rd?) gear. I have not ridden many motorcycles. just this Yamaha and my 2009 Triumph Bonneville T100. and I would not describe it as sticky or a problem. But I also don't have a ton of riding experience. and even my Triumph is a little tricky getting into neutral at times. so it's hard for to say one way or the other ?ˆ” and I want to be perfectly upfront with any potential buyers. One more thing: a prior potential purchaser asked if the engine number matched the VIN. I do not know. and because it's a pain to move it in and out of the garage (not the biggest garage). I haven't had a chance to confirm whether the engine matched the VIN. I tried once. and if asked. I suppose I will try again. But when I take it out to clean I always forget to check. I think that's it. If I think of anything else or photos lead a potential buyer to see a problem with the bike that is not mentioned. I will update this listing accordingly. But regarding questions: I will do my best to answer them. but I am not anchored to my desk and can't always be prompt or even remember to do so.  Also. bike is sold as is; there are no warranties either express or implied. And to be clear. and again. avoid any confusion that might occur later. I currently possess the title in my personal name. but will be technically transferring title to a non-profit charitable corporation FIRST that will then execute the sale to you (so that the non-profit can benefit and I can take the deduction). So any deposits/checks will be made out to the non-profit. not me. Thank you all. Good luck bidding.
