Rd 400 E/F
Now then where should I start. i have decided to sell my RD 400 E/F as all it does it sit in my garage and look pretty. i have owned the bike for a year and bought it because i owned one when I was 19. oh the smell of two stroke. AGV helmets. TT leathers and Adidas Samba for protection.
I bought the bike from a good friend who had owned it for while to also relive his youth. the previous owner had restored the bike over ten years and carried out the following works:
The Frame. battery box. swing arm. engine covers. seat base. sub frame. handle bar clamps. head light bowl. head light arms. chain guard and footrests were shot blasted and stove enameled. tank. seat strips and cowl re painted in Pearl white (purists look away now. it is the wrong white from original but it looks great)NOS front mudguard headlamp and glass and rim. nearly all the fasteners. screws and bolts. new seat cover. new rear mudguard. reconditioned front brake caliper. re chromed exhausts and down pipes. NOS exhaust joints. new rear shocks. NOS clutch. Speedo. rev counter and throttle cables. NOS grips. NOS rear footrest and front footrest rubbers. pattern fuel cap. new chain and sprockets. new Pirelli tyres. Rebuilt crank and Pistons by SEP in Derby. phew !!!
All i have fitted is clear oil pipes and had a look at the clutch plates/basket (which looked like new). i fitted a new clutch rod. ball and seal whilst in there. i had a look because sometimes it will not go in neutral when stood still with the engine running. goes in fine when the engine is stopped. not had time to mess but may need setting up with the clutch adjuster. my new RD 400 in 79 used to do the same thing !!).
The engine runs lovely with no nasty noises and it rips through the gears like it should do.
I my opinion the seat needs a new foam as it’s soft. I was going to do this but I don’t have the time.
It’s not original but it looks stunning and stops grown men of a certain age in their tracks. it’s very pretty but there are air bubbles under the sticker on the tank but it is still one of the best RDs out there. if the seat was done and repainted the correct white it would be a show stopper.
Serious buyers will want to view before buying which is ok with me. I won’t P/X or export anywhere and I am also not going to give this wonderful classic bike away. if it doesn’t sell it will stay in my garage or go to the local Yamaha dealer in the window!! Oh the registration number is BYE 333T which is unusual and yes it has matching numbers.
If you want an original bike then it’s not for you however if you want a stunning RD then please call me on 07923 291742 to have a chat or ask any questions.
Cash on collection please.
The speedo and rev counter have a little line on them. they are not cracked it is a reflection of a telephone line above the bike !
