American Muscle, ade in USA. Very light but strong hand laid fiberglass fender, airing, as tank, nd rear tail section. Ducati style hand crafted chrome-moly perimeter frame, erformance Machine six-piston front and Brembo rear calipers, nd the same inverted WP forks used by 8 time national race champion Scott Parker. Corbin seat ($500), orla racing carbon fiber exhaust canister ($400), ightweight quick release lockable luggage ($1500 option), ew sport touring tires; front IRC ProTech SP-11F & rear Metzeler RoadTech Z6 ($400), ewer AGM battery ($100, ewer front brakes & new rear brakes ($100). Note: only the 1997 fiberglass body versions are considered collectible among the Thunderbolt S3Ts. Once Harley took over Buell in 1998, he expensive to make fiberglass components were replaced by mass production cheap plastic, he trick WP front and rear suspension, nd brake calipers went generic Japanese components, nd artisan frames were no longer hand crafted.
Bought in September 2012 with 14665 miles, s a third bike that I always wanted, nd have only put on a thousand miles in three years. Originally I was going to completely refreshen the bike to showroom condition...someday...well guess its time for a new owner. Another "Bueller" enthusiast would be perfect. Starts and runs excellent, t is tuned and piped for 100HP like the later Thunderstorm motor but without the troublesome head and cylinder gasket issues of the 1998 and later models. Has always been run on Mobil One synthetic 15w50. Primary chain and belt drive tension adjusted, alves are maintenance free hydraulic push rods, elf adjusting. The Keihin 40mm CV carburetor has been re-jetted for performance. Rear end lowered two inches for better comfort, an easily be redone to original. Handles incredible, pright sitting position and pretty comfortable in the saddle overall. I added rubber gel grips to smooth out some hand vibration. Bike is very light, round 450lbs, heelie / stoppie capable, 2 second 1/4 mile, eeps up with much newer bikes until it tops out 130. The luggage black tubing frame is one piece and removes in minutes for a very modern sport bike look.
Its imperfect, f it was showroom the value would be $5,000. It was almost $14,000 new in 1997. This rare Thunderbolt S3T needs some small cosmetic details finished; gas tank decal ovals unfinished, ome small paint bubbles on gas tank, ome scratches on saddle bags. For a more modern appearance, revious owner discarded fairing leg lowers, pper plastic belt cover/hugger, nd rear plastic under fender. Ball ends on both levers were removed. Driver foot pegs were also replaced with new style by me (not pictured), rappy originals included. Custom made license plate bracket. A beautiful unique exotic looking bike overall, inished in metallic British Racing Green.
Unlike most motorcycles, onsider this one an investment rather than an expense. The value goes up slightly every year instead of down, nd soon, n 2017, t twenty years old, t will be considered a rare American classic. You will not find another COLLECTIBLE Buell like this for the money. Over the years, have owned many brands, nd many styles, et there is nothing else like riding an early years Buell. Somewhere there is one person reading this who understands that and will appreciate owning this fine thoroughbred machine.
