Description

Sigh. this is difficult. To start with I can simply say "hey it all works and has an MOT. there you go" but I'd rather write it all out so you know what you are getting. The RST 1000 as a motorcycle:For those who do not know much about this. here are my concise thoughts about the pros and cons. in case you've come across this for the first time and not sure why you have not heard of it. This motorcycle was made for a few years starting 2001. It was an all-singing all-dancing gorgeous motorcycle meant to be futuristic and therefore had adjustable front and rear suspension. single sided swingarm. indicators on mirrors. three headlight bulbs with two for high beam. a BEAUTIFUL dashboard with pie charts for temperatures and fuel gauges. a tunable ECU that you can remap easily. a unique single tool chain adjuster. super Showa front fork. underseat exhaust. and the awesome Mille engine from Rotax. However. some things didn't work out well (bad electrical engineering. mostly. typically Italian) which caused issues and the model was a sales failure and that means you get an absolute bargain if you can be asked to do a few VERY SIMPLE mods that are time testes - ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN DONE ON THE MOTORCYCLE  ON SALE. The weak links on this model (not this particular bike on sale)  that I feel are the most critical are -Charging wiring. The charging capacity was upgraded. the cable gauge was not and things caught fire. All has been sorted on my bike even before I got it and it's been fine for the 11k+ miles I've put on herFuel disconnect - they put a plastic one that broke - I've spent ?40 on a proper metal one that is used on the new TriumphsIgnition coils - This is not a problem for fair weather riders but I have never owned a care and in winter the salt on the road tends to corrode the coils causing misfires and dead cylinders. While there are easy measures like getting newer Citroen coils. I have gone ALL THE WAY and changed to Honda Denso coils used on the new CBRs which mean that you should pretty much never ever have any issues. I can vouch for the fact that these Denso coils are arguably the best coils you can get in any production motorcycleOne absolutely important advantage is the unbelievable support you get from the online community on this one. I know its common these days but in this case every problem has been so well documented. solved and explained with pictures and drawings etc. that these motorcycles will probably go a long time further than otherwise. You will find absolutely everything documented on this and superb support from the forums in case you need any help at all. I feel that adds value to a model. from experience of having owned more than ten different bikes in my lifetime so farm. and I am not a dealer. The particular motorcycle on saleGood bits:As above. all functional issues have been fixed. That said I I am not of the belief that a motorcycle needs to be 'dry stored' and 'never used wet'. I keep both my bikes outside (the other one is a Yamaha with 90k miles on it) and ride them all year round and I don't think a motorcycle that is well designed and maintained needs to be pampered like that. There is no rust on this bike. but then again most things are either plastic (including the tank) or aluminum. In a word. everything works. Well a few niggles which are listed further below under Bad bitsYou get almost brand spanking new Bridgestone BT023 tyres that were only installed a few of months ago for ?260. Receipt to proveNew Lucas battery installed a few months ago for the winter. The previous one still workedNew fully synthetic oil (Elf) about 2000 miles backNew Oil filter last yearNew brake pads in the rear. The front has quite a bit left and THE BIKE COMES WITH A NEW PAIR OF FERODO PLATINUM SERIES PADSNew brake fluid within last six months. as a precaution. and I was boredPhilips headlight upgrade with 100% more throw than conventional. I rode through backroads a lotFull toolkit. originalCorbin seat. I THINK this has been shortened but not sure. I am 5' 10" and it's slightly lower than I'd like but never bothered me.

Bad Bits:The speedo connection is a bit funny. This started a few weeks back. I took the speedo to an electronics lab at work and ensured that the DASHBOARD IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL. Which means the wire from the sensor to the speedo is worn or the connector needs changing. This is a matter of time. to open all the plastic bits up to find the fault but you can simply get a replacement sensor for about ?25 if you cant be asked. Mind you any mechie should be able to fix this. I've just been riding it too much to have time. Scratches and marks all over. I have to admit I am not the polishing kind. I have washed it once but then again I ride so much in the rain it's never been dirty! The pictures are real. current but I have to say the scratches disappear and it looks worse than the pictures if you step close due to the marksSome of the plastics don't align perfectly. this sort of thing annoys people like me who go looking for these things but if not it wont bother you. If I had an enclosed garage I'd open everything and put everything back properly but I don't. Maybe the perfect winter activity for you?!Some of the plastics around the dashboard had cracked when the bike fell over so this has been plastic welded from UNDERNEATH. so even though you cant see it it has anomalies under the skin. That said its probably stronger now!The front brake lever partially broke when it fell over but I haven't changed it because it does not affect anything at all. Replacement costs ?12 so nothing to worry aboutThe clutch switch does not work which means if you stall it you have to go to neutral to start it. I don't remember stalling it. Replacements are very cheapThe front brake switch is starting to get a bit over-sensitive and the ?11 replacement will probably be done before sale. No promises! To be clear it works. just saying its on its way out

As you can tell. I love bikes and this has been cherished but I intend to buy some other ones that I can't afford without selling this so I've put this up to see what I can get. I am NOT desperate. The bike takes me to work and back and every place I can dream of over the weekend. and is doing so everyday so I will not be giving this away to silly offers.

The tailpack on the bike in the pics does not come with it! Pickup from Billericay. and I can deliver anywhere at all as long as you pay for it. I will ride it down to yours but we need to work out the costs beforehand. Corrected mileage from 37k to 35k. I must be losing my mind.
