This dear old BMW R60/5 with good history has come up for sale here in West Sussex. Although quite old it is still an all round good bike with no serious issues. There were no advisories in the current MOT test periodGood original looking paintwork. Electrical items all working with no warning lights showing. Controls (levers knobs etc) all adjusted correctly. Low general wear and tear & corrosion levels. Included paperwork; HPI print out (all clear). V5 registration document. owner’s manual/service book. service history invoices. a collection of MOT testcertificates going back to 1986 Bad PointsHigher revs are not smooth and could perhaps do with a look before the bike is used seriously (feels like water in one of the carburettors (I have not looked)). The fuel in the tank is also quite old and may not be helping much. The heated grips do not need ignition on and could leave you with a flat battery if you forget to turn them off (the good news is that you can still start it with the kick starter). The taco gives an erratic reading. The Ride. The bike feels spot-on. the wheels and steering feel perfectly aligned and there are no unusual effects in the handling. suspension. cornering or braking. When cold. the engine bursts in to life straight away. There is no unusual noise or any other sign of any excessive wear. As the motor warms it settles down to a nice slow tick over. The wear and tear. I can find no significant or unusual wear and tear in the wheels. suspension. engine. clutch. gearbox. steering. seat or panels. There are no obvious fluid leaks. There is no significant wear in the front wheel. rear wheel. steering or swing arm bearings (I checked them when I took the photographs). Is the mileage right?Although I cannot see any obvious mileage discrepancies I have no real way of knowing. however I think that in this case due to the age of the bike and the paperwork with the bike. that it is more important to consider the condition of the components on the bike. that can be examined by inspection and testing. than to assess the wear and tear using the odometer as a measure of the bikes quality. Other. There are no signs of any serious previous accidents in the history or around the bike. There are no other visible faults or damage. If you want to ride the bike home without a current MOT test certificate. you may find that is possibly legal for you to ride it. to your local MOT testing station. without an MOT test certificate (as long as the booking is pre arranged).
