Description

This is not a matching numbers bike. Thought I would mention that right away so if you are very concerned about that issue we can get that out of the way. I sent the frame number 619883 and engine number 642717 to BMW Group Archiv to get correct information so I could straighten out the Michigan Title as it had the incorrect year listed on title. I have letter from BMW Group Archiv that states the bike is a 1959 R60 built on April 3 1959 and the engine is a R50/2 built on June 6 1966. I now have a clear title that shows the correct information. After I had the frame powder coated it made the frame number hard to read that is why I put in a picture of vin number before frame was powder coated. I can remove powder coating in that area if it is important to buyer.

Now on with the information about the bike. I purchased this bike from a friend that had it stored in his basement for about 15 years he did not have a lot of history about the bike. I decided to do a frame up restoration and try to bring the bike and engine back to original condition. I must say that I believe that was accomplished. I have many more pictures of before during and after and other written information if you are interested you can contact me and I will send them to you.

The bike was stripped down to the bare frame and then I had different professionals work on the areas of their expertise. All engine work was done by a local mechanic that has restored many BMW’s and rebuilt many BMW engines. Majority of parts were furnished by Bench Mark Works in Sturgis MS. Crankshaft was done by Chris Chambers in Huntsville AL. Speedo was restored by Foreign Speedo Co. in San Diego CA. Heads were sent to Bombar`s Beemers in North Carolina for a rebuild. Painting was done by a local professional according to BMW specs including color and striping. Powder coating was done locally. I performed all of the taking apart and reassembly electrical and other items to get it to run ideally. The following is a brief description of what was done:

1. Engine parts were new pistons bored first over front and rear main bearings clutch plate gasket set oil slinger plugs points coil condenser plug wires plug caps and new timing advance unit.

2. Crankshaft sent out for any work and heads sent out to get rebuilt.

3. Tank fenders headlight bucket taillight housing and a few other small pieces were painted.

4. Frame and other parts were powder coated.

5. New stainless steel spokes and nipples on both wheels front wheel is new rear wheel was polished.

6. New rubber kneepads on tank and new Denfeld solo seat with proper mounting hardware from Bench Mark Works.

7. New Heidenau K34 Tires front and rear size 350 x 18 M/C 62S. New tubes also.

8. New Exhaust headers right and left and crossover pipe from Bench Mark Works. Mufflers were polished out.

9. Because speedo mileage did not match the engine I figured I would have it restored and reset to zero so the new owner would be able to tell how many miles since it was restored.

10. Majority of nuts and bolts were replaced by stainless steel and some hand polished by myself.

11. New seals installed in transmission and input shaft.

12. Rubber items for headlight taillight and carbs are new.

13. New headlight reflector convert steering head from ball bearings to roller bearing conversion.

14. New brake and throttle cables.

I have worked on this restoration on and off for a couple years. I currently have just under 400 miles since done. It is fun to ride and always attracts a lot of attention. It was my intention to restore it and then sell it as that is my hobby. I try to keep motorcycles on the road. I am very pleased with the way it starts and runs I believe it would make a nice rideable bike for someone. I entered it into a show last summer and took top 5 in class. Everything works on bike as it should. The horn is not very loud. I don’t believe everything is period correct for bike such as exhaust possibly or handgrips. I do believe all work was done according to specs and am very pleased with the way everything turned out. I have one photo that shows a small paint imperfection on the back fender. It is circled in orange. Is hard to see and hard to take a good picture of.

Shipping of bike is complete responsibility of buyer. If I can assist in any manner you can ask. The bike is sold as is where is with no implied warranty expressed written or implied.
