Description

This is aNo Reserve Auction. For Sale is an almost all original 1983 BMWR80GS in good condition. Here's the story:I was living in San Marcos CAup until 2003. Some time in the late 90smy next door neighbor drives up on this gs. I instantly go next door having owned2 of these previously and have been an airhead owner since 1984 (Airhead #513). At the time it had a huge saddle on it so I offered him this orange seat I had picked up at Escondido cycle salvage years earlier but I asked if he was ever going to sell it thatI would like first crack. Comes 2009 I get a call that he is ready to sell. Of course now I'm living in CoeurdAlene ID. I flew downand drove ithome in August 2009.I believe I am the third owner. The Bike: This is a great bike starts easy and runs strong. Ithas had regular maintenance but nothing rebuilt. Top end was resealed at the dealer rubber items and gaskets have been replaceda new piston in the front master cylinder fork seals steering head bearings light grease on the trans splines plug wires It has original starter. I feel it has less than 35000 miles The speedo works but the odometer quit around the time I purchased it I never tripped or commuted to work on this bike other than to Idaho and than back to CA. The odometer can shake around and change from 5000 to 50000 or any other # as you ride.My wife and I travel on a 94 R100R.It came with metzelerstreettires itnow has Saharasmounted. It the has original owners manual tool kitand air pump under the gastank. When I purchased it the left side cover was missing. Ipainted and installed a new on. The right sidecover has one of the plastic hooks broken off(see pic). The warning light cover on the dash shakes so I slipped some rubber under it. I did not paint over anything on the bike so you could see the original look. It shows age but has not sat outside. It has had service work done by BMW Escondido (Brecht at the time) and by myself. This bike is not a leaker. The only spot that had a small drip was the left valve cover. We sealed the bottom at the time becausewe did not have a new gasket. It may need to be surfaced. The trans rear gasket dripped onto the collector muffler but has beenreplaced interesting enough the gasket from the factory was pushedin on one side and would hardly seal. So far the muffler and collector seem pretty solid.I've seen some before that rust out. The tank has one supertinyding (checkpics) other wise seems straight with some scratches. When cleaning the bike this week I noticed splits at the seam on the right fork boot. I ordered new boots and will install them when they arrive. It does need a new battery so I am offering twooptions:I will offer a $200 dollar rebate towards a new battery of your choice (in case you would like a new light weight one) or I will purchase a new bmw battery and install it. It comes with a sturdy rack and bag mounts. This bikehas been mostly ridden onpavement and maybe a little dirt/gravel roads. This bike comes with no warrantyand is sold as is. All sales final. Buyer to arrangefor shipping if needed and pay all costs. Please look at pictures closely. My thought is pictures lie. This bike is not perfect.I have limited internet on work days Mon -Thurs but will try my best to communicate. My cell 208-964-6528 Thanks for looking Dwight
