This is a very nice 1971 Chang-Jiang M1M (CJ-750). This bike is a "Clown" or Replica of the legendary 1938 BMW R71. Engine is a 750ccm Flathead Sidevalve BOXER. It is a heavy Military motorcycle made for solo or sidecar use. All the hardware is there tohook upa sidecar. It is a former Chinese military bike (PLA) and still has the original green military color under the black paint...
I bought the bike last year from a friend who used it for 5281 km (3200 miles) when he stored it for almost ten years in a dry and heated garage. He told me that there was only a small problem with the compression of the left cylinder when he stored it. After inspection, discovered that the exhaust valve was not seated properly (poor valveseat job).
I started a total restoration of the bike and here is what has been done: ( Iwill provide all the Bills for the new owner)
Bike has electric starter and kick starter. Transmission is 4 speed with REVERSE. Final drive is standard ratio.
Bike starts at first attempt every time and idels perfectly. I only used it for some miles for a test ride. Engine will have to be properly brocken in for the first 1000 km by new owner. Bike is equiped with the deep o?l pan for extra oil cooling. I have the passenger seat that goes on the fender. All electrics are in excellent working condition (except the horn that doesn't work). It is a cheap fixer for 10$. As all Chang-Jiangs...is has a small oil leak . Never saw one not leaking some o?l...
All parts for those bikes are unexpensive and very easy to find on eBay.
These bikes are very fun to drive and attracts huge crowds everywere you go! Top speed is around 55 miles/h as it is equiped with the standard final drive. You can buy a high speed final drive to go faster if you wish,..
I bought this bike for my wife in the hope she will follow me on my bike trips...that dream was just a dream!!! Have to many bikes...this nice bike needs a new home. It is sold on an "as is" bassis and I will assist you at my end if you need it to be crated for transport. Crating in a wooden box and shipping costs are on thebuyers cost! I have clear titles in hand and bike is listed as a 1971. Please ask your questions early...if you wish an answer before the auction end.
