Description

One of the last years of the classic R100RS, nd arguably the best since it was the first year they put a monoshock rear end (borrowed from the K bikes) on an airhead. Much stiffer torsionally than the old twin shock swingarm, esulting in a huge improvement in handling; goes around fast sweepers like it's on rails. The RS fairing is one of the best on any bike ever. Pics show bike with and without lowers...I take them off in the summer to stay cooler. Bike is largely stock with the following upgrades:
- progressive springs in front forks
- steel braided front brake line
- floating brake rotors (installed by SD BMW Mottorad when original rotors wore out. These provide smoother, etter braking than OEM.)
- Fox racing shock on rear
- bar riser (puts handlebar 1.5" up and 1.5" back and still easily clears fairing)
- Michelin Pilot Activ tires: 100/90-18 front/120/90-18 rear. I've used Continental and Metzler (sport and marathon) and these are by far the best tires available on this bike.
Bike has high miles, ut runs perfect and it's in good shape.Top end and gearbox/clutch rebuilt at 95K miles (bottom end is bulletproof), o I'd expect this will go another 30K or so before you have to tear into the engine. Compression within 2% of factory spec during last tuneup about 10K miles ago.Yes, f course the valve push-rod tubes leak a little oil; that's just what they do 60K after installation. And there are two broken fins on the right side cylinder (road debris, guess I should be thankful it wasn't my foot); riding here in SoCal I haven't had any overheating issues and that includes occasional trips out around the Salton Sea. Again, hen you refresh the cylinder heads in another 30K or so then you'll probably want to replace the cylinder head on that side.
Includes BMW saddlebags and tankbag (the side cases are about a year old, he tank bag isoriginalbut ingood shape),as well as the complete original tool kit and owners manual. Bike is in San Diego, o if you're not local buy a one-way ticket and ride it home (you can cruise this bike at 80-90mph all day long)before the fall weather is over.
I'm the second owner, nd have had it since 2000. Hate to see it go, ecause it's such an effortless and enjoyable ride for me. But I'm recently retired and want an adventure bike to trailer on our camping trips...and I need to sell this one first.
