Offered for sale is this nice original paint 1972 BMW R75/5. I purchased this bike from the estate of the original owner, ho was an airline pilot. The bike is finished in Curry Metallic, color that was newly introduced for 1972, nd which I have since found out from an old time dealer was the rarest color sold on the /5's. Passed by for ages, he Toaster tank /5's are now considered the quintessential BMWs of the period, nd they have become highly sought after. And the 750cc machines like this one are the top-of-the-line version of that bike.
This is a matching engine/frame/frame ID tag bike with a clear matching title in my name, eady to transfer to the new owner. As near as I can tell, he bike has been off the road for about 8-10 years. It is not currently running, ut kicks over just fine. It was covered in a thick layer of dust when I got it, ut when I washed it off I was pleased to find that the original paint was still shining after these 44 years - even under the seat (see photo). The seat is also the correct one-year-only short wheelbase with one piece grab rail.
Other than the stainless exhaust and the aftermarket large capacity oil pan, his machine is in surprisingly original condition, nd deserves to be restored back to a 100 point bike. Even most all of the fasteners and clamps are still original equipment, long with the correct CAD plated front and rear turn signal mounts. The first owner epoxied a Triumph luggage rack to the top of the tank, ut otherwise the tank appears to be in great condition, ith no rust at all inside - it looks like new in there.
Unlike most of the sellers out there who like to squeeze an extra $200 out of a bike by stripping off all the accessories, his bike includes the factory tool kit and tire pump. It also includes a new seat cover (not shown) that I purchased in Europe. Already fitted to the bike are two NOS battery side covers that are original BMW and fresh out of the wrappers.
Please ask all questions before bidding, nd have your finances lined up too. Payment is expected with 7 days of auction end, nd the bike should be picked up/shipped within one month of auction end (negotiable - but let me know what you have in mind before bidding). Overseas sales are welcome, ut I cannot help with shipping quotes. Personal checks are fine, ut this will delay pickup/shipment. Paypal payment ONLY if you agree to use the Friends and Family option (which has no fees for either of us if you are paying from a checking account or Paypal balance).
Good luck!
Note: I can deliver this bike to the AMCA National at Rhinebeck NY at the end of June at no charge if that is of interest.
