Description

BMW 1980 R100RSI acquired this bike in September 2012 having wanted an aircooled BMW twin for some time. I?ˆ™m selling it as I haven?ˆ™t used it much this year. only doing 180 miles in the first six months. then just for commuting recently. current mileage is 46. 45.   It passed the current MoT with no advisories. although the tester told me there was a slight fluctuation of brake effort and the outer sheath of the rear brake hose was chafed. but not sufficient to warrant putting on paper. The ride is best described as ?ˆ?unhurried?ˆ™.   She doesn?ˆ™t like raised white lines especially when they?ˆ™re wet. nor the surface-dressing roads where the stones seem to wander in the general direction of the road.   On back lanes she handles quite nicely.  The brakes are not a patch on modern systems. especially as this model has a cable operated master cylinder under the petrol tank.   The brake hoses look to be original so I think they need to be changed. Good pointsGood starter. usually first prod of the button.   Has decent Avon Road Riders put on at 39. 43 miles and still meat left on them. Reliable. I haven?ˆ™t had any problems with her. Partial service history. At 39k a new rear brake master cylinder was fitted. October 2013. I fitted new pushrod tube rubbers. base gaskets (not fitted as standard). oil pressure switch and head gaskets.   The old exhaust nuts were cut off and replaced with second hand items. All electrical items work.   I have taken two photos showing engine at idle and also when generator light goes out. Pannier frames. Comes with a spare centre stand as the original one has a bolt to kick it down with. doesn?ˆ™t look too clever but it does do the job. Bad pointsThe finish is not great. I have tried to make this clear in the photos.   The bike had been used in winter in past years and has some corrosion.   There is a bit of rust on the rear suspension. corrosion on the fork legs. engine casings and cylinder covers.   The latter  look like they?ˆ™ve also been in contact with the road at some stage. It will need a new exhaust balance pipe as I had to persuade it off when I worked on the engine. There is oil misting around the back of the engine where the clutch actuating mechanism hides. I don?ˆ™t know the source of it. see photo. A few chips to the fairing. The original pump is present. but the toolkit is not. A set of BMW panniers is available at ??80. The cheap battery that was on it when I bought it fried itself a few weeks ago. and I have acquired a second-hand one from a more modern BMW.   It does start using this. and because it is smaller I have added a bit of wood to stop it moving about.  There is some history with it. invoices for various jobs going back to 2000.   Previously had a personalised number. but now has its original one which is non-transferable. I think this is a great candidate for a restoration. alternatively it would be an easy conversion to a cafe racer. Any questions. please ask.   Apart from what is the buy-it-now price and will I end it early. to which the answers are the auction will run to the end and no. Don?ˆ™t bid if you have feedback of less than 20 (sorry. but I?ˆ™ve been caught out before). Please make contact within 24 hours of auction finish and cash on collection only.
