In the early 1950's Brockhouse LTD of England took over Indian MotorcycleCo. of Springfield Mass. Production of Indian motorcycle ceased in theU.S and Royal Enfield, f Redditch Englandwas contracted to produce bikes (under the Indian name)for export to the U.S. and other destinations. What records remain show that Brockhouse ordered a total of 274 Indian Lances in 1958 and 59 combined. How many shipped to the U.S.?
This bike is approx. 85% original. The fenders and tank still have the original Sahara yellow that supposedly all Lances were painted. Tank still sports the original duel pin stripe. Reproduction tank emblems.Seat is the original Mansfield seat. Tires are Dunlop Lightweights as originally fitted with Dunlop tubes. Chain guard was reproduced from photos and measurements from originals. Tool box came from another project bike and had been painted years ago. Clutch, ront brake, ompression release and throttle cable are NOS. Engine was in need of repair. Cylinder bore is fresh .010" over size and new .010" over size piston has been installed. New bearings where needed and new crank seals have been installed. New replacement foot peg and throttle grip rubbers have been installed. Tail lamp is new replacement due to originals being scarce. Miller head lamp, witch, immer switch, top lamp switchand ignition coil as were originally fitted. Fuel tank is varnished, ut does not appear to have much, f any rust. Has original Renold Made In England chain. Rims and brakes are in very good shape. Correct Amal carburetor and air cleaner. Some thru bolts are standard bolts. Whitworth, SC, nd BA Threads were maintained with original or replacement bolts. Original parts manual and copy of workshop manual included.
With interest building every year for small bikes like the Harley Hummer, SA Bantam, illers ect. This is a rare opportunity to own a very low production bike. Would show well unrestored or would be an easy restoration project!
