Description

A Road Ready, reshly and Thoughtfully restored BSA LightningHISTORY
I bought this BSA Lightning about 25 years ago. It had a holed piston and mostly incorrect cycle parts. I obtained a second frame to get correct forks and other misc. parts as well. I then went on a buying spree for new fenders, ipes, ufflers, ables, nd so on at British bike shows.
I dismantled the bike to the bare frame, ad all the black bits powder coated, he tank and side covers restored and repainted, nd all the shiny parts restored and polished. Everything was in order.
Then life got in the way and this lovely pile of expensive as-new parts sat for about 18 years!
RESTORATION
Finally help came along and, n late 2009, the engine was completely rebuilt, he bike was assembled by a BSA enthusiast and the restoration was completed at the famed Raber's in San Jose, alifornia.
Today, e bike is as close to "mint original" as possible, eady for anyone to ride and enjoy it.
312 miles have been logged since restoration was completed. And this on a completely rebuilt engine, arely broken in. It wants to be ridden, ut I no longer have the time. Thus I conclude it deserves a better owner than me!
DRIVE IT OR SHOW IT
If you want to RIDE what amounts to a brand new, azzling chrome and candy apple red BSA Lightning, our bike awaits you. If you want to SHOW it, itto. This bike is an eye stopper and gets stares and comments wherever it goes. I personally think it is the prettiest of the classic British bikes.
However, f you want to win a fussy Concours type show, ou will need to evaluate and potentially change theseparticular items...
* The front wheel has stainless spokes, hich are lovely but not original. The rear wheel has the original dull metal spokes.
* The new Amal carburetors would need to be replaced with Amal monobloc style carbs. The ones that were on this particular bike were not salvageable. Only the Spitfire model had concentric carbs in 1967. Also, hese carbs don't use a choke cable, o you would have to get one and hook it up.
* The side covers are not perfect - see photos for small scratches (left) and decal imperfections (right) as you look up close.
* The right side of the chrome tank is not perfectly smooth and the chrome is not perfect, ut you have to look hard to see it. See photo.
* Not all the fasteners are the original Wentworth domed type. Some are modern and to sizes you can actually get tools for! Check the photos.
* It has a factory tool roll but it is not complete. A set of Wentworth wrenches comes with it.
* The saddle pan was modified with fixed bolts pointing downwards. This makes it possible to fasten the saddle to the frame without trying to fuss bolts upwards into invisible holes.
* Install gaiter clamps on the front forks.
* It has a Boyer electronic ignition. If the judges insist you fuss with points, ou would have to convert it back. Needless to say, don't recommend this as the Boyer makes for greater reliability.
INCLUDED IN THE SALE
The bike comes with a pile of literature - parts books, wner's manual, aynes manual, acon's classic BSA twins book, hop manual, eriod adverts and sales folder, opious notes and photos of the restoration itself. See photo to appreciate the tonnage involved - I was nothing if not thorough in my research!
