1953 BSA **Super Flash** Basket Case Original Matching Numbers
Frame: BA10. S. 304 / Engine: BA10 S 268 / HHC
For your consideration is this Ultra-Rare 1953 BSA Super Flash Factory High Performance 650cc Twin Cylinder Motorcycle Basket Case. This Very Limited Production A10 Model was an 'Export-Only. top-of-the-line motorcycle. with few sold outside of the United States. This is a 1st year bike of a 2 year production run. The Super Flash is the grandaddy to the A10 Rocket Gold Star. with a Factory tuned sports motor rated at an impressive 40 rear-wheel horsepower. and full Gold Star trim; they even came standard with Rearset frame lugs for competition use. Only a handful of SF's are known to exist in ANY condition today. and are usually only found in Museums and exclusive collections. The SF is rated 5-Stars and as desirable as the RGS in the Bacon Book; much less common than the 650 RGS too. Ownership is a very exclusive club!
Super Flashes were the most expensive BSA in the line. with Gold Star style chromed fender blades. brackets. and tank dressed in Goldie paint; a most distinctive and sporty big twin. The frame is unique with the kink for the 10TT9 carb to fit behind the performance ported head. and the rear section modified for the large capacity GS oil tank. The primary drive was upgraded to triplex chain. and an 8" brake used up front.
This is a Matching Numbers bike needing much attention. Most of the 'Super Flash Only' parts are there. and importantly has an intact numbered main frame. and undamaged motor cases. The bike was converted to swing arm long ago. and the iron plunger casting was removed (lost). The lower plunger arms were saved (SF-Only. with the rearset foot peg lugs intact). and are unmolested. All that is needed are the plunger castings and hardware. which are the same as all other plunger A7 and A10's. The rear section is built-up. and easy to dismantle and assemble being pinned and brazed together.
The fuel tank is missing. It has the proper large oil tank. under-slung headlamp. full fork shrouds. and correct toolbox (with original paint). The forks are complete. The front brake is missing the drum and some hardware; no rim or spokes. The Quick Detach rear wheel/brake assembly is all there except spokes and nipples. There are 3 SF front fenders. one has been converted to use on the rear. The chain guard is correct and undamaged. as is the special side stand; the rear brake pedal and linkage assemblies are good. The original underslung-pilot headlight. wiring. red-dot Amp gauge and switches are there and in good original condition.
The SF head and cylinder is very nice with no broken fins or damage. The motor internals are incomplete. There are two 3-row primary chain clutches. All the triplex primary chain hardware is good (standard A7/A10 is duplex chain). The tail light bracket is NOS. There is a Golden Flash battery box assembly included; it can be modified to SF spec. No pipes or carb. Most all the brackets are missing. There are 2+ wiring harnesses. a complete Altette horn & bracket. a complete generator. a manual advance magneto with wires. a regulator. and all the switches and most levers. There are two Chrono's; one for parts. There is a rusty crank. and the timing chest is empty with no cam. The gearbox is complete. assembled and functional.
Most of the missing parts are common to the A7/A10. and can still be sourced. This bike is presumed to be a 'Western' model. It sat many many years and passed through several hands as it appears now. which is likely the reason so much is missing. It is a genuine matching numbers Super Flash though. and is sufficiently complete to be restorable to it's original glory. and substantial value. The BSA price guide states that due to the rarity. the value is inestimable.
Sorry. no Credit Cards or PayPal; most all other forms of payment accepted - please ask. The bike can be transported to any local Shipping/Trucking Depot free of charge; Hired delivery possible to a few select locations within 500 miles of Fayetteville Arkansas. Can have the parts boxed and palated for a fee.
For more photos or information. please call 479-304-1216 (the owner is a lifelong BSA/Super Flash enthusiast). or message through eBay. The bike is sold 'as is. where is' on a Bill of Sale. and will not be released until funds are posted. Private showing by appointment. Thanks for looking! Also published at eBay.com
