Description

1965 Ducati 160 Monza Junior. 1st Edition

I challenge you to find another 1st Edition Monza Junior anywhere in the United States. This might be the only one left. A full set of photos can be viewed HERE. 1st Edition bikes were unique in that they came with the curvy round tank and headlamp bucket - predating the hideous squared-off tanks and headlamps afterwards.

This gem was originally purchased in 1965 in Chicago by the same original owner I purchased it from. You will be the third owner. When I purchased this beauty. it had been taken apart by the original owner to restore. He had powder coated the frame and many parts fire-engine red. I purchased the bike to assemble a flip as a quick easy project. Instead. I found myself looking at a 100% complete and original bike. I mean. even the foot rubbers. air-box rubber. etc. are original!

With that in mind. it turned into a concourse restoration of which I am very proud. I made every effort to replace as little as possible and I was successful. A friend of mine at the Peterson Automotive Museum has been trying to abscond with the bike from me for 2 years for their collection. but I don?ˆ™t like the Peterson?ˆ™s policy on the bikes they purchase and display. It is time for this one to be enjoyed by somebody instead of being treated like an artifact in a museum.

Whats been done? Not very much other than cosmetics and engine rebuild. Everything was blasted down to metal. frame was powder coated black. all the chrome was stripped and re-dipped (including the fork tops and fenders which were originally painted - I have extra paint if you hate them - I think it looks amazing). nbsp;

Electrics: I made a new wiring loom (as the original was a rat?ˆ™s nest) using the original wiring diagrams. The generator was rewound by Ricky Stator to original factory specs. However all the original parts are there - very amazing. I even painted the battery and found SAFA stickers for the judges at the shows you are going to take this bike to.

New gaskets and seals all around.

Bottom end: The crank and gearbox bearings were all replaced and re-shimmed as I wasn?ˆ™t sure of the history of the bike. Now it is better than new.

Top end: Was in perfect condition. so I just adjusted the valve clearances per factory specifications.

Barrel and cases were cleaned (fin by painstaking fin) and the lining was cleaned but not honed as the piston and rings were in excellent shape.

Carb was disassembled. polished. jets and needle are new from Amal.

All engine covers and other metal parts (aside from the cases. of course) spent a lot of time on my polishing wheel getting to look that nice.

Brand new Ferodo Brake shoes. and new cables for everything (front/rear brakes. clutch. choke).

Paint sprayed by me but pinstripes were done by Starlite Rod & Kustom.

This bike has CLEAR CALIFORNIA TITLE in my name and is ready to go. What you get is a rideable show bike that nobody else in the US has.

Also. included with the bike is a CD-ROM with Operation and Service Manual. Workshop Repair Manual. Owner?ˆ™s Manual. Workshop Manual Supplement. 160 Monza Jr Spare Parts Catalog. Original Wiring Diagram and updated color diagram as installed on the bike. receipts. Tire Specification Sheet. Paint Codes and Ducati Singles Restoration by Mick Walker.

The speedo was rebuilt before I purchased it and I don?ˆ™t have the actual mileage from the original purchase in 1965. however. the actual mileage since rebuild is 12 miles.

Good Luck on the bidding. The bike is sold AS-IS. WHERE-IS. There are no implied or express warranties with this sale. Please ask any questions BEFORE bidding. not afterwards. Remember. you are bidding to BUY the bike. not to look at it or think about it.
