This rare old Circa 1960 Harley Davidson XLH1000 Ironhead Sportster has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to machinery than ours. PLEASE CHECKOUT THE PICTURES. Here at DK Motorcycles we have very little experience or knowledge with these American classics but you Harley aficionados usually know exactly what you are looking at. Any help or advice on what we have here will be much appreciated. We are advised it is a 1960's chassis with a 1972 engine instaled. It has a rare front end with 33. 3mm forks & drum brake. The clocks are original early items & the handle bars are 2/two piece with central clamps – There doesn't appear to be any frame numbers? …. Again we are told pre 70 bikes had no numbers???. The engine is cosmetically quite clean. it turns over nicely off the kick starter & displays compression but we haven't run it up. The bike is currently unregistered. The registration process is reasonably uncomplicated.

We HAVE NOT got the certificate of title but we will provide proof that VAT & Duty is paid on the NOVA system.

REGISTRATION

1. You need to get the bike MOT’d.

2. You need to prove the year of manufacture in writing. Phone Harley Davidson on 0871 6412508 with the Model type. frame & engine Numbers. they will organize an application for a dating letter – there is a charge for this service.

3. You need to have valid insurance on the bike. You can insure it on the chassis number.

4. Send all this paper work to the DVLA. who will charge you ?55 for the 1st registration & the current amount for the road tax.

5. The DVLA will send you your age related registration number.
