PicturesHEREVideosHEREPics of BlemishesHEREPsuedo Build ThreadHEREThis was a pan trike from circa 1970's from what I understand. As much as I love to preserve history I just had a hankering for a trike and felt i had to make some changes (sorry chopper gods).I just wanted to see if I could make a trike that I thought was cool so I preserved as much as possible while giving it a face lift. I updated some things andgave it some needed fixes and maintenance.PlusI added ELECTRIC START and keptREVERSE figuring that someone who might be in the market for a trike may need these those things for physical reasons. The rocker clutch is also user friendly if your leg needs assistance.I put alot of money and time in it; basically asjust an exercise. I had alot of fun building it and riding it now I need to move on to other projects. All in all it's still a bitchin' time capsule (just the right amount of patina)that's ready to go. It starts and runs good. I'd ride it anywhere BUT I'd carry a spare primary belt b/c I do not trust belt primaries w/ idlers. The good news is you can swap in a new belt on the side of the road in a few minutes without undoing anything major. Pretty much leak freeexcept for weeping around lower pushrod seals and occasional sumping out vent line after sitting.I've put about a 1000 miles on the frame and about 200 on the shovel motor and trans. I just did 100 of that in a day with no issues other than a pushrod that came came out of adjustment. I've bombed around the beltway at 70+ mph and around town in traffic and terrible roads. Charges idles runs starts steers stops shifts has lights etc; needs nothing hop on and ride. Riding position is very practical. FYI a rigid trike is a rough ride though. Only selling b/c I've had my fun with it and have other projects now to move on to.Details:
- Motor- Stock 1976shovelhead motor from an FXE. Clean original numbers (I owned the frame and title from which it came). Icheckeda few thingson it but otherwise it's as it came to me. It'snot freshbut it runs strong and has no realoutstanding issues. The following is what I do know:
- newpoints and advance unit. New chrome ignition cover (not in pics b/c I'd just swapped condensor).
- newJames Firering head gaskets
- cylinders/pistons are .010" over. Cylinder walls were smoothbut no scoring.
- Stock tappetshydraulic lifters and adj pushrods. NewJames gaskets andcork pushrod seals.
- cam chest is good and timed w/newfoamette gasket. stock cam.
- updated to '81+ OEM oil pump.
- old S&S Super B carb original to the trike.Air cleaner cover has minor speckling.Newcable.
- NewColonyacorn rocker box hardware kit.
- I noticed the threads were a little hogged outon the rear cylinder exhaust port when I put new studs in. It's fine for now.It has not been repaired or helicoiled so thats an easy fix if/when the time ever comes to deal with it.
- Axle+Rr Wheels- Hydraulic brake servicar rear end flipped over. 37 tooth sprocket.Newalloybrakelines. Old chromed backing plates (minor speckling in the crevaces). Rear wheels are new 16x4" steelies w/ factory black paint. Tires arenewFirestone 550-16 with 2.5" Wide Whitewalls.Newlugnuts and newchrome aftermarket spider caps.
- Trans- OEM 1976 case machined for reverse gear. I've been inside and internals are used but decent. Shifts nicely. OEM jockey top with stainless hand shifter and wood knob.Old chrome OEM kicker cover (typical pitting in chrome).22 tooth sprocket. Wafer style throwout withnewbearing.New1st and R gears (andnewbushing)on the countershaft. Kicker pedal is real Harley rubber w/ the logo.
- Primary-Kick and Electric start. Old chrome aftermarket covers (chrome is decent but has some bubbling in spots). OEM starter (still has H-D sticker on it). 8mm Karata Belt drive w/newcustom 32t front pulleyand belt idlerto get adequate gearing (uses common 30853 belt).INCLUDES a new spare 30853ST belt to keep in your back pocket just in case.Cool vintage Harley derby cover. Stock style 3 stud clutch withNewlong roller bearings and retainer and newer red Alto clutch plates.
- Frame- appears to be custom made like i said probably in the 70's. Not perfect but it's pretty slick actually.Paint is OK but it is old and there's plenty of knicks and chips. Some of the molded areas have a little cracking (not bad though).
- Clean MD title (in my name) as 1952 Harley Reconstructed. It's anassigned VINfrom the state of PA w/ metal tag riveted to the frame.
- The backbone had a sound but ugly repair under the gas tank which I redid so it looked good (even though it's not visible). This area is all touch up paint.
- Severalbig holes from tank and seat mounting that I redid with TIGwelded and threaded bungs. These areas areall touch up paint.
- bottom hole in the neck was hogged out a little so I had to modify a neck cup to get a good tight fit (all good now).
- An original style Servi-car Master Cylinder/bracket/linkage was added after the fact. That area is just black paint.
- Forks+Front wheel- OEM uncut '49-59 Adjustable tree (Old chrome with some blemishes). The added rake makes it handlepretty well. Early 80's FXWG41mm fork tubes and chrome legs for with dualrotors (chrome is decent but has a couple blems). Unshaved so you can add a brake or fender if you want. Front wheel is OEM later model 21" (aluminum hub and 3/4" bearings) in pretty nice shape with used but decent Continental tire andnewtube. The wheel has a flange for a rotor so you can easily add a front brake.
- Fuel Tank- I swappedold tank forreal "Wassell" peanut (has stamping in tunnel).Newpaint by Ron atCycle Finish. Nothin' fancy just tried to do something that would blend in reasonably wellwith the existing paint and use the mounting holes already in the frame. The tank was fit when a Panhead motor was in frame so I had to make aluminum spacers to raise the tank to clear the shovelhead.
- Oil Tank-Newreproduction panhead style oil tank but it's the shorter TT style. Modifiedto shoehorn Electric start under it. It holds anewShorai LFX21A6-BS12 battery. Stainless mounting brackets. Stocktab for the chaingaurd is just cut off (to clear the E-start primary). Oil lines are chrome hard lines and fittings at oil tank and rubber at the motor.
- Seat+Sissy bar- (ah the seat..........). I made the seat pan sissy bar and luggage rackbumper mount as part of the update.
- Seat isnewlyupholstered by Smith AutoGlass. Sewn pleats in black vinyl. It's a little plush for my liking and thepleats going up the back are canted slightly. Basically it's fine but not perfect; and I would not recommend having Smith Auto Glass upholster your motorcycle seat. Seat can be removed easily with 2 bolts.
- Sissybar is all stainless. 1/2" round stock is all highly polished. Joints are stainless sleeves. All TIG welded with stainless rod. It's mounted to the frame so that it's removable and independent of the axle adjustment.
- Luggage rack and bumper mount- All stainless. Easily removed w/ 2 bolts if you want. 1/2" round stock is all highly polished. Stainless tubing (w/ a few decorative grooves) slides over and bolts to frame rails. Bumper is nice old chrome original servi-car bumper.
- Bars+Hand controls- Awesome vintage pullbacks. old OEM grips with old chrome aftermarket throttle housing.Newcarb cable. Risers are short 2 piece aluminum.
- Foot Controls:
- Newchrome rocker clutch (parkerized spring). Easy to operate.
- Brake side is a slightly modified Hydraulic bracket and pedal. Both functionalbut have blemishes. You can lock up the brakes no problem.
- pegs are old OEM Harley rubber pegs with lettering. Mounted to machined Stainless extensions (help get your leg around that ol' super B)
- MISC-
- Newwiring and terminals through out. Ignition switch is an old OEM HarleyFX switch mounted to transmission.
- Headlight is older KDbates style with sealed beam that was original to the trike.it hasminor pitting. Uses and old chrome OEM 49-59 mount.
- Exhaust is semi-custom to clear trike stuff but nothing fancy. TIG welded w/ 309 stainless rod (the welds are small and nice not blended). Front pipe has 1 joint behind brake pedal (not really visible). Rear pipe has 3 joints. So they arenot perfect but decent:they fit the trike well. Mounts are welded to pipes so no Pclamps or brackets.Newgaskets.
- Taillight is new aftermarket with anNOSKnight lightlens.
