Description

1961 Vintage Harley Davidson Sportster XLH – Other Harley –Original Condition

Purchased from the original 75 year old owner in 2006, lean SC title, ery original. Only known modifications are one repaint prior to 1970 (based on registration sticker). Original paint color was a metallic red. Engine recently rebuilt with receipt shown. Engine was never rebuilt prior and was running okay but I wanted it to be reliable and engine was ready to be refreshed after 38,000+ miles. Have retained original paint on engine etc. Runs and shifts excellent. Nothing needed. The 900 cc’s have some serious get up and go. Following the process of two kicks choked with the key off and then closing choke with the advance forward and turning key on will fire this bike up every time in one or two kicks.

Has original (and spare) tandem banana seat, riginal hard cases (one was cracked by the mover but fixable - shown), orrect year license plate, xtra tail light and fender, riginal lollipop mirrors, ew battery, tc. No visible signs of dents or scrapes that would indicate the bike was ever dropped. There are scratches and some paint scrapes but adds to originality.

Very rarely do you see these bikes not chopped or modified. This is a great caf? racer type bike. I added an original period correct bates seat and p-pad (the only think not period is the springs and bracket). I’ve been searching for years for the right (original) racing numbers for the sides and a period flat handlebar set which I thought would really put it over the top but haven’t found yet.You can also easily put the original parts back on and have it as a cruiser.

This size bike is great/not too big or heavy to maneuver and pushes my 220 pounds up to speed in a hurry even with my 175 pound 6ft 2 wife. I’ve broken in the motor properly adding a couple of hundred miles on it around town and it performs wonderfully. Bike gets a lot of questions and head turning and discussions with the pros about the originality. All and all a great bike that with the rebuild should be used frequently and would provide years of fun while retaining or increasing in value.

Let me know if you have any questions. Chris
