Some years ago a friend gave me a boat tail seat. completely original including paint. knowing that I had lusted after a 1970 Sportster since high school. So then I had to go find a bike. restore it from the crankshaft out. and put that seat on it. I don't recall the original mileage but it was not high. and a new speedo was used in the restoration. 3956 miles since restoration.
It was built to be a rider. not a show bike to be judged. so there are things that are not correct. The gaitors are non-stock. nbsp;and while the parts book showed the ray-gun muffler for 1970. this one has a 1972 date stamp. Paint is very close. but should probably have just a touch more red to it. The license plate bracket came out of the seat. so I suspended it from the short sub-fender.
And while I know some of you are itching to tell me what else is wrong on it. please try to control yourselves. It is not a 100 pt. restoration. and I don't care. I ride it a few times a year to bike shows. and it works just fine for that.
The engine was pretty good. and the crank did not have to come apart. As I recall we used new cylinders/pistons. and some cracks were found and professionally welded inside the transmission cavity near 1st gear. Heads were rebuilt. and a later carb was used. Just wasn't sold on the Tilitson.
Starts and runs well. and has had meticulous maintanance since restoration. I always wanted an old iron-head tuner to check it out. as I know there is more performance there. but I never got around to it. and the only one I know won't ride one with the internal throttle.
Contact me if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them. and I'll try to post more photos soon.
And Thank You for looking.
Regarding shipping. I will deliver to a depot in the Omaha area. but will not build crates and I will not arrange shipping. as that is the responsibility of the buyer.
