Honda CB750 K1

Model Year: 1971

Frame Number: CB750 - 1110501

Engine Number: CB750E - 1110222

Mileage: 37. 30 Kilometres (23. 69 miles)

This is a lovely matching numbers. low mileage example of a definitive classic machine of the 1970s. For the uninitiated the Honda engine and frame numbers of this period were never identical but both ran within a specified range for each model. both the engine and frame numbers on this motorcycle fall within the range for the K1 model.

Cosmetic

As can be seen from the pictures this machine is in lovely condition for a 43 year old motorcycle and has clearly been fully restored.

The bike is finished in the correct standard paint scheme for this model. there is a small area of paint on the top of the tank that has been scraped. this aside the tank is in fantastic condition with no dents or damage. internally the tank is very clean. The side panels are in equally good condition and unusually for a CB750 are not cracked.

The chrome work has been re-plated and is very clean. the mudguards are both in very good order with no dents or damage. The all important 4 into 4 exhaust system. which is perhaps the defining feature of the CB750. is in great shape. the only minor damage being a small dent at the end of the lower left hand silencer. this can be seen in the pictures. the chrome again appears to have been re-plated and is in great condition. the original baffles are still in place.

The wheel rims are very clean and the chrome is excellent. The seat is in good shape the cover has been replaced and the base is solid and undamaged.

Mechanical

The engine starts easily and runs well with no untoward mechanical noises. it ticks over smoothly. revs cleanly and pulls well when ridden. the engine does produce some smoke. we are not sure of the reason for this and the amount of smoke does vary. sometimes there is very little at other times it is more significant. this will require further investigation. The oil pump is returning oil to the tank.  The clutch works well. and the gears all select cleanly and positively. this machine rides very well.

Chassis The rolling chassis is in very good condition. the frame is very clean with new paint. There is no identifiable play in the swinging arm. headstock or wheel bearings. The bike has its original air box fitted. this does have a little damage on the front right corner this is visible in the pictures.

The forks are in good shape. the action is smooth and damping is effective. The rear shocks are also in good condition and damp effectively. The brakes are both working well.

Electrical The electrics are in good condition. the headlight is working perfectly as is the tail light the brake light is working on both the front and rear brakes. The indicators and the horn are working well.

The switchgear is in good condition and the instruments are also in good clean condition.

Summary

This motorcycle has clearly seen considerable restoration work and is a lovely example of a truly classic Japanese motorcycle.
