Description

1970 Honda CL175 K5 was ridden daily in Spring. Summer and Fall of 2013 by my 16-year old son who wanted his Illinois Class M (175cc and larger displacement) Motorcycle license at age 16. 175cc Honda Engine is tight and runs strong. my son tells me if he stays off the pipe it gets close to 70mpg. State of Illinois Motor Cycle Instruction Class was attended and he tested/qualified for his Class M license in 2013. Bought this 1970 Honda CL 175 as a low mileage runner to obtain his Illinois Class "M" riding status. Since. it was my son riding this bike. it began a joint father/son endeavor. where we went through the whole bike together. cleaning and inspecting all frame and bearing components. reinstalling all with fresh grease. Front forks were drained and new Fork Oil installed to proper CC level. 3 left side engine seals were professionally replaced. as the clutch rod seal was worn and leaked some. since we were in that side of the outer engine case. I had the mechanic replace all the seals. with Honda OEM seals. 3 total. to include the transmission main shaft and shifter rod seals. Those 3 Oil Seals had to be sourced from other out of state Honda dealers. nbsp; who still had the needed NOS Oil seals in there parts bin. Honda does have very good and nationwide part sourcing system for older models and I have always found if I needed something I could still find/get it for this Honda 175. Then we bought a new (in 2013) a new chain and replaced both front/rear sprockets and chose new CB175 sprockets (ratios) for highway gearing. the brake shoes and contact surfaces were inspected and all had plenty of meat left on both wheels. Then we bought 2 new OEM sized tires. (in 2013) front and rear rubber with new tubes. that were then professionally installed and balanced. as the old tires on the bike were showing dry rot cracking from extended storage before we bought this CL175. There is still plenty of tire tread depth and brake shoe depth left on both tires/wheels for many miles of future use to come. Bike will run 75mph if you lay on/hug the tank for less wind resistance. otherwise is will cruise 65mph all day long setting straight up with the wife and I riding it out for ice cream. That would be a 400+ pound riding payload. it is not a crotch rocket. but will shift smoothly through all 5 gears and will accelerate briskly to keep up with any traffic. to include entry to freeway. Bike usually will start on first kick. when choked correctly. but electric starter also performs as designed for those who prefer to push a button. All idiot/indicator lights still work. This CL175 will make someone a good starter/learner bike for a new rider. like a wife or your kid who wants to feel the wind in their face. instead of riding on the back. One thing I liked. regarding this motorcycle. is that I think someone would have to be really trying hard to get themselves a speeding ticket on this bike. as the acceleration is brisk. but not excessive. it is really fun and easy to operate for a newer/less experienced rider. Other than making sure the engine oil level is checked occasionally. it has been a low maintenance bike for this dad. once we initially addressed/knowing the needed bike maintenance was performed. so we both knew it was safe and reliable for the road. This was my son's daily rider and took him to school every day in the spring and fall of 2013. The Bike still gets started and ridden around the neighbor hood about every two weeks and is ready for another home. It does show well for its age. does have a scratch here and there. OEM paint job is fading. gas tank is dent free and OEM seat does have one very small puncture (see close up seat picture) otherwise no tears or rips. seat is still very pliable. My son tells me he gets many questions and comments from 50+ year old men who take note and remember their early riding days. Email with any questions or if you want to personally see/inspect this Chicagoland bike for yourself. Bike can be shipped. but buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and I will help with loading bike for transport. Local pickup preferred. $100. 00 Deposit must be received within 48 hours of auction close I will store bike for up to 30 days after close of auction to allow for convenient time/date to take delivery or arrange for shipping pick up. Buyer note on 3-31-2015 this listing was revised by seller based upon several emails that were received regarding incorrect (Originally listed as 1971) year of bike being listed. the CL175 is titled as a 1971 CL175 K4 model and I have that "open" Illinois title in hand with 1971 listed as the year of origin. This is one of the descriptive emails I received which explains the reason for the listing being revised that was copied and pasted from my Ebay correspondence acct. to share important information regarding this listing with other interested parties =From: monomoyantiquesTo: tmilli51015j27Subject: Re: Vehicle condition monomoyantiques sent a message about Honda : CL #291418264429Sent Date: Mar-30-15 21:55:14 PDT Dear tmilli51015j27. t's quite common for bikes of this vintage to have been titled as year sold. not necessarily model year. which makes referring to them by model designation (i. e. "K4" or "K5") more accurate. Your gas tank and side covers (along with everything else. except the chrome headlight ears) are correct for a K4. The frame serial number you list also confirms that the bike is a K4 (1970 model year). Great little bike; I have the same one in blue!Rob
