Description

This is a highly customized 1985 Honda V65 Magna currently with 17546 actual miles. I have owned the bike about 15 years and it has always been garage kept. The engine was completely rebuilt at around 9000 miles by Dave Dodge of Dodge Racing Products and he installed the oil modification at that time. The oil modification greatly increases oil flow to the top end. While the engine was off the bike an off-frame restoration was performed and every nut and bolt on the bike was removed. At this time the frame and brake calipers were bead blasted and powder coated, any parts were chromed, nd the tank, ide covers and tail section were professionally painted a deep bluish purple color with green Tribal style highlights. All hoses and rubber parts were also replaced. I am 5' 7" tall and could not sit flat-footed on the bile so I replaced the fork tubes with tubes that are 2 inches shorter and also added Progressive shocks to the rear which are also 2 inches shorter than stock. The battery is relatively new and strong and is kept on a trickle charger during the winter. The carburetor was replaced 2 years ago with 1983 rebuilt carburetors and a Dyno-Jet Stage 1 kit was installed. This is arguably the best of the V65 carburetors. This bike has a K&N oil filter and air filter. The air filter is washable. Just spray a light coating of the K&N oil, et dry and install. Mobil 1 synthetic oil has been used since the engine rebuild. Brakes calipers and both master cylinders rebuilt and new pads installed last year. The saddlebags, ackrest cover and backrest zipper pouch are all leather and were custom made by Alligator Bob of Advanced Custom Design http://www.alligatorbob.com/ . The saddlebags are made of buffalo hide and are very weather resistant. Just coat them with a light coat of waterproofing wax. The backrest is leather and has "V65" stitched into it. The Corbin seat was added about 5 years ago and has little wear. The entire exhaust system was professionally ceramic coated inside and out by Jet-Hot http://www.jet-hot.com/ during the 9000 mile rebuild and should never wear out. Front and rear tires have about 500miles on them. Cooling system was flushed and new coolant adder 2 years ago. I also have the very rare original fiber optic cable lock that plugs into the alarm module. As far as I know the alarm works but there's no way to test it without cutting the cable.

Everything works. The key to remove the seat is broken off in the lock. However, hat's left of the key has a long shaft and since the rest of the key is still in the lock all you have to do is place the key shaft in the lock and turn it and it will open. The lock is a nightmare to replace so I just live with it. There is a separate key for the ignition which might work in the seat lock but I can't get the broken key out to try it. I have never had the bike in a shop for repair and I do all the work on it myself including the carburetor tune-up and synchronization. Rarely when the engine is cold the starter will wine a little, ind of like when you have a weak bendix on a car. The starter is not the problem though as I rebuilt that. The problem is with the springs in the starter clutch. Those have also been replaced. I think it's a design issue and has never been a real problem and it is a common issue with Magnas I'm told. This bike is my baby and I will never get the money out of it that I have in it. There are very few minor scuffs that are hardly visible. The bike runs great and has a lot of torque. As with all carbureted bikes it takes a couple of minutes to warm up but after it is warm...hold on. No one will be disappointed with this bike.
