Description

Do you remember 1985? Neither do I but now you can relive the glory days with “Starship” the 1985 Nighthawk 450SC. The 450 Nighthawk was produced for only four years and has a cult following of its own but you already know that which is why you are on this page. If you are familiar with the 450 Rebel or even the 250 Rebel you will have no issues finding your way around this bike. The Honda parallel twins are know for being bullet proof and easy to work on. Easy to ride with great gas mileage.
For the eighties, his thing has some advanced technology that I wish I had on my 2014 bike. Air adjustable front fork? Check, ubeless tires and alloy wheels? Check. Comfortable seat and helmet lock? Check. Six time-warping gears? Check. Center stand? Check. Tachometer? Check. Hydraulic disk front brake and VHD shocks? Check and check.
Starship has some patina and her beautiful “Candy Empire Blue” paint job does not glisten as she used to and there is some pitting in her chrome. However, echanically (where it matters) she is good to go.
I purchased her in April as a bike for my wife to learn on. Unfortunately, he did not take an interest in learning and besides me riding her on occasion, he sits forlornly in my garage next to my other bikes dreaming of having an owner who will take her on interstellar adventures.
New parts replaced in the last three months are:
· New Yuasa battery and installed battery tender leads
· New front and rear JT sprockets
· New RK Racing x-ring chain
· New NGK spark plugs
· New aftermarket horn
In addition, aintenance is up to date and she has a fresh oil change with Castrol GTX motorcycle oil and a HiFlow filter (I will throw in two extra HiFlo filters as I bought a three pack). I also pulled the fuel tank and cleaned it, nspecting it for rust. The tank is clean and no rust was found. Carb was pulled, isassembled and cleaned. Brake fluid was drained and flushed. Frame grease points were cleaned out and re-greased. The wiring harness was inspected and re-wrapped with any damaged wires repaired. Tires were inspected but not replaced as they were recently installed and are practically new with at least 80-90% or their life left. They have no dry rot and still have most of the nubbies on them.
Starship starts up on the first try and runs strong. She could probably use a carb tuning as there is a flat spot around 4300 RPM. Although the carb was disassembled and cleaned, have not tried to tune it as carb tuning is not my forte. In addition, he chrome and the bright work could be cleaned up with some elbow grease as I have not had the time to get to it (or you can just ride it in its current vintage glory as I do).
Extras included:
· Honda Rebel tool roll (which I believe is the same as the Nighthawk)
· Clymer manual in good used condition
· Owner’s manual
What? You say you don’t have suitable headgear to pilot Starship? No worries, will throw in a used Bell “Star” Helmet in matte black size Large with a clear and dark shield (this is a $650 helmet when purchased in 2008 and is both DOT and SNEL compliant).
Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Bike has passed all Delaware inspections and is licensed and insured in Delaware. I have clean title in hand. I can assist with delivery in 100 mile radius for gas money. This is a great starter or commuter bike. Honda 450s get 40-50 MPG easily and besides oil changes and gas, hey just run.
