Description

Engine starts right up, dles and runs well - compression in cylinder #1 159-160 psi, 2 159-161. High and low beam headlight as well as tail and brake light work properly. Horn works but is a little weak. Brakes work fine. Steering is straight and smooth. Clutch is good but there is a major issue I'm told probably with the shifting fork - grinding noise occurs when shifting into 1st and 2nd gear (3rd and 4th is good). This started acting up last year shortly after I put a limited number of test miles, nd after I thought all the mechanical issues were addressed.

I bought this bike from the original owner in August, 974. The Missouri title I have is dated 09/04/74. I put a few thousand miles on it the first year or two. Around 1977-78 I had the tank, ide covers and rear fender professionally painted metallic blueas seen in the recent photos. Raising a family riding time got less and less and for several decades I’d get it out of the garage, tart it up for a short ride andput itaway foranother year of dormancy. I movedthree times, lways with the idea of doing a restorationwhen I retired. Retirement came in 2013 so I started restoration plans. In 2014 I realized I needed help, ots of it, o I sourced a local mechanic that restores Hondas on weekends. He finished the mechanical work in December, 014. Without going into details here, ’ll list the major work completed:

  • gas tank and petcock cleaned; tank sealed with Causwell tank epoxy

  • carbs completely rebuilt

  • fuel lines, ir filters and cables replaced

  • ignition tune up - points, lugs, iming etc., long with a new battery

  • shifter leak fixed with seal replacement

  • replaced clutch basket (old one had crack), rank case gasket replaced

  • front end work included replacement of forks, ew seals, lignment and tightening up triple tree

  • seat cushion completely rebuilt (lengthy/costly process), ew seat cover installed (used OEM seat strapping inserts and chrome trim which were in very good condition), he seat is like NEW

  • bent left headlight ear replaced, t and headlight bucket repainted

  • tool kit pouch handmade to look like original, ncludes a complete set of hand polished tools

  • two new Shinko 244 dual sport tires installed along with new tubes and rim strips

  • Over $1k in part invoices, ome parts still not on the bike such as replacement left side cover, ank badges, irrors and other items

  • all old, eplaced parts go with bike

Notable OEM items missing: front fender, hain guard, eutral indicator lens in headlight bucket.

Notable items to address: in addition to the shifting fork issue mentioned above; the exhaust system is louder than normal due to original owner’s modification of tail pipe (see photos); the speedometer needle isn’t functioning but the odometer works fine (and shows accurate original mileage of 10.8k); blue lacquer paint shows cracks althoughpaintstill shines),bondo filling coverssidesof tankwhere Honda badges should be; small sectionof rubber tank leg guard does not fitas it should. Sound of horn is a little weak. One cover has two drilled holes – I have alike newreplacement cover (silver paint) that goes with the bike.

Reason for selling: Due to an illness in the family I don’t have time to enjoy my bikes and cars, o something has to go. This bike is probably worthmore parted out than what the reserve is but I’d like someone to finish it and enjoy it. For now, ’m holding on to a low mileage CL175 that I’ve owned since the late ‘70s. It was cosmetically restored last year.
