honda cb250/500rs. 1983 cb250rs fitted with a honda ft500 engine. conversion done before i bought it. i have old m. o. t's going back to 1984 that list bike as 500cc so it must of been done before then. m. o. t also confirm mileage of bike as 20647 which i believe is correct although no way of knowing engine mileage. bike is registered on v5 as 500cc and i also have an engineer's certificate/letter to confirm the conversion as professional to satisfy insurers. the 500 engine bolts straight in so the frame hasnt been modified. a 250 motor would go back in if you wanted to return to standard. the engine is from the ft 500 which is very simular to an xl500 but has larger valves and carb giving better road performance. as you can see this bike uses ft500 pipes which are the correct diameter for the engine but do not follow the lines of the bike very well. they work great though. i have put an old reverse cone mega silencer on that i had which gives a good sound but is a bit tatty and you may wish to upgrade this. i have also made a k&n style air filter setup as original airbox will no longer fit. i bought this bike as a non runner. it had been standing a while and the electric start gear had shredded its teeth. this is common and they are very difficult to obtain so i have converted it to kickstart using cb250 bits. there is no decompressor fitted but it isnt too hard to start. usually 3rd or 4th kick but this should improve with getting to know the bike. i havnt touched the jetting yet either. the bike pulls nicely through the gears and will tick over fine. the choke is not conneted. i have put a length of chain on at the moment as a tempory measure to operate it. i have fitted a new battery. changed the oil and filter. replaced crankcase gaskets that were leaking. stripped and cleaned carb and caliper. fitted a master cylinder from a kawasaki er-6 which has the correct ratio and fitted new rethal grips. this bike will probably benifit from some further fettling once it is used. i have just got it up and running and put it through the m. o. t. . i have ridden it up and down the road a few times to check it out and was impressed by the way it went. feels like a factory made bike. will be a lot of fun. the m. o. t lists a few advisory items which are. rear tyre worn close to limit. drive chain worn but not excessive and front offside fork has light misting. i would replace both tyres as front is a cheap make. although has plenty of tread. and i would replace chain and sprockets with some taller gearing which i think would suit the 500 engine better. the side panels are not the correct blue for the bike. i have the originals as pictured but these have broken lugs which you can repair if you wish. paintwork is otherwise very good. there were no indicators fitted when i got the bike but i have a set of original indicators if you want them. there is no tax on the bike but full m. o. t. i am selling this bike to fund another cb250/500rs which i want to build as a cafe racer/bratstyle bike. this one is too good as an original to mess about with. there is no reserve. no buy it now. auction will run. cash on collection. i maybe willing to deliver for a fee paid upfront but you will need to agree this before you bid. viewings are welcome. i have tried to be as honsest as possible with the description. any questions please ask. thanks and good luck.
