1975 HONDA CB500T (UK Registered)
I bought this bike as a non-runner a few months ago from an elderly gent that had owned the bike some 30 years but hadn't ridden it since 1993. I intended to use it as a base to build a cafe racer. However. once I started to strip the bike down. I decided that it was too good. and too original to butcher so opted to carry out a mild restoration.
Since buying the bike. I've thoroughly cleaned it from top to bottom (removing all road grime and grease built up over the years). replaced the coils. cleaned out the carburettors. replaced the points. cleaned out the tank and fuel tap. cleaned and re-greased the clutch actuator mechanism. fitted a battery. rebuilt the front brake master cylinder and brake caliper.
New Parts Fitted: Brake Caliper Piston and Rubber Seal. Brake Master Cylinder repair kit. indicator Flasher Unit. Rear Brake Switch.
The frame and forks are straight with no pitting on the fork stanchions and the seals are good.
The engine and transmission are sound and the bike starts on the first or second kick. The bike rides very nicely and pulls well through all the gears. The clutch operates very well too! The tyres have plenty of tread and the headlight and stop tail lights work.
As you would expect after 39 years the paintwork on the frame and swing arm has deteriorated somewhat with some rust in places. The front pipes. silencers and chrome rear mudguard are all pretty good. however the chrome on the front mudguard is pitted and peeling (see photographs). Apart from a small tear on the left side of the seat. the upholstery is good.
The electrical items NOT working are; horn. indicators and electric starter (via button). The horn. indicators and starter solenoid I believe will need to be replaced to get them back working (having been sat for 21 years the corrosion has got the better of them).
Mileage is 30. 03.
These lovely old classic bikes are now becoming pretty rare and are rising in value. This would make a great winter restoration project. The V5C registration document is present and in my name.
