Description

1916 Indian 221cc Model K FeatherweightOscar Hedstrom and Oliver Hendee. both active in the cycle racing world. got together to found the Hendee Manufacturing Company and build the first prototype Indian motorcycle in 1901.  One of the lesser known - and with good reason. for it was made for the 1916 season only - is the 13. 5ci (221cc) Model K Featherweight. A low-cost ($150) utility motorcycle. the Featherweight was powered by a single-cylinder two-stroke engine driving via a three-speed transmission and chain final drive. Unfortunately for Indian. the Featherweight turned out to be a sales flop and was replaced for 1917 by a new lightweight - the Model O - powered by a four-stroke. horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engine inspired by the British Douglas. One of only a relative handful surviving worldwide. About this bike:We have had it for about 25 years and it has been keep inside for all those years. mostly in our living room and dining room.   We are downsizing and don't have room for it.   This bike is 98% original. a very rare find. It last ran about 15 years ago. although the carb leaked a little. As pictured. the top fin on the left side of the motor is broken. As far as we know it was repainted only once. many years ago. There is no current title. but as pictured. we have the original proof of ownership certificate from 1940As there were no odometers back then I don't know the mileage but ebay makes you enter a mileage number
