Description
condition with 7,300original miles. The small blobs of yellow paint applied to critical fasteners at the factory are still
present. This machine is offered for sale by the original – and only -- owner. It comes with the
original bill of sale, itle, egistrations, wner's manual and several other unique documents, ncluding the Sept 1975 issue of
Big Bike magazine, hich sports a photo of an identical Z-1 on the cover and a feature article about same on the inside.
The intake manifolds, xhaust gaskets, attery, il, ilter, rake fluidand spark plugs are new - everything else is original. The tires are not original but have a date code of 1977 and are Pirelli Gordons - very rare tires. The original intake manifolds are
included…also, 4 into 1 Dan Gurney header (also from 1975) that was manufactured
specifically for this 900 cc engine. The paperwork for this header is also included.
I have a small shop just north of Asheville, C specializing in vintage Japanese motorcycles. The owner of this very special Z1 came to me last year to inquire about refurbishing his bike and finding it a new home. He purchased this bike in July of
1975 -- brand new -- in Waynesville, C, bout 30 miles west of my shop. He rode this motorcycle on the backroads of
Western NC for the next several months. Then, n the spring & summer of 1976, even individuals, ncluding two of the owner’s acquaintances, ied in motorcycle wrecks on the same roads he likewise frequently traveled. Aware the same terminal fate could well be his, he owner of this bike rolled it into his climate-controlled basement and there it sat unmolested.
He did register / tag this machine twice more…in 1979, nd again in 1985, ut both times his fear returned and he decided
against riding. So, his Z-1 continued to sit in his basement year upon year upon year …until last winter when he brought it to me to refurbish for sale. Significantly, e manually turned the engine over every few weeks, nd fired it up every few months
so that many of the problems typical of bikes from long-term storage were avoided. This machine actually startled me by
roaring to life the first time I tried it.
I have given this bike what I call a "Chapter Three" service. In most shop manuals, hapter three is the routine maintenance section. I start on page one and go through to the end. I take extensive notes and photographs as I work and write up
illustrated reports to the customers every night.Myreports to the owner of this Z1are available on request to interested
bidders/buyers – including over 150 pix and dozens of pages of text. The work totaled 23 hrs and, ith $175 in parts, ame to $1,600.
Functionally/mechanically the bike is now as-new - with one exception. The tires are not the original Dunlops but Pirelli
Gordons. A Google search turned up zeromatches to these tires - so I left them on the rims as a rarity. They held up for a
short test-ride but must be replaced if the new owner intends to ride this bike.
Cosmetically, t is very good to excellent. There are small flaws here and there as shown in the pix. I will be glad to take
additional detailed pix of specific components/views on request.
Please call or email with any/all questions. You are welcomed / encouraged to inspect this bike in personor send a
representative to do so on your behalf. My shop is in Alexander, orth Carolina - just north of Asheville. Shipping
arrangements are up to the buyer. I live up a dirt / gravel lane in the mountains, o will bring the bike down the lane to meet the shipper's truck on the paved road.
My Ebay experience is that about one third of the winning bidders turn out to be dead-beats - so I insist on an immediate non-refundable deposit of $500 upon notification of the winning bid. And please ensure you have the full estimated purchase price available before bidding.
If the deposit is not paid, our bid is cancelled and I report you to Ebay as a dumb-ass, o-hope, hicken-shit, ead-beat who
didn'task Mommy for permission to buy a bike.
The Buy It Nowprice of $14,000is my estimate of current high-retail value of this special bike. I consulted another Z1
customer/collector who concurs. It is also advertised for sale elsewhere at this price. No lower offers will be considered
unless the auction concludes without a sale. The reserve price is my estimate of low market value.
