This is my 4th Motorcycle in 2 1/2 years. I started riding at 53 years old after staying clear of motorcycles since I was a young man. My search went a little crazy from a slightly used 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1700 in 2012 (I hated the floorboards and the rider position) to a brand new 2013 Yamaha Super Tenere Adventure bike (awesome bike but a little buzzy at highway speeds) to a 2011 Suzuki GSX1250FA (a real torque monster that was so much fun to ride hard that I was getting good at 1st and 2nd gear wheelies). I realized I wanted the 4 cylinder smooth power after trying the V-twins and then trying the sweet sound of the Suzuki with a 2 Brothers pipe. I kept adding stuff to the other bikes like heated grips. etc that was standard on the SuperSport Touring bikes so I sold them all and I purchased this fine 2012 "Connie" with 1252 miles on it in 2013. This is Supersport Touring HEAVEN. The 70 year old owner decided he did not need to ride anymore after riding for 40 years. He had dropped it twice from a standstill in the driveway (the marks are there but they are insignificant). I have actually dropped it too. I really hate to admit it but hey. it happened and the mark on the mirror is there as a reminder that it touched the concrete. Pride swallowed. but the fact is the bike is perfect in everyway except for the "love taps". It is the pinnacle of everything I have sought in a commuter motorcycle. I ride 60 miles round trip daily through a rural country route from one small town to another. Nothing I ever see can out accelerate me (I never see Hayabusa's or Z14's on my route LOL) and passing at any speed is an instant thrill because it only takes a few ticks of the center stripe and you are already flicking the turn signal to come back into the lane. Things change and I recently lost my job. I won't just ride this bike for fun because I am a busy person. So now I am going to move it on to another enthusiast who knows how to enjoy it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the bike. It stares at me on my back patio and begs to be ridden.
I added a few things like V-Stream tall windshield (not extra tall). I am 6 ft 0 in tall and it is perfect. I also ride with ear plugs (the other bikes were not this quiet). Another add is the Tech Spec tank pads and Pannier protectors. This was one of my favorite adds because I grip the tank with my knees right on the tank pads and it gives grip and insulates vibration. Also I put on several Ram Ball Mounts to be able to move my GPS and iPhone mount around as needed. at 6. 00 miles I installed the best tires I have ever ridden and they have to be experienced. Michelin Pilot Road Z rated tires. SWEETNESS. I sized the rear tire with the optional 55 series (a tiny bit taller) and a dual density with hard center. They have 5. 00 miles on them and they could possibly have another 5. 00 left in them. These were expensive tires and well worth it!
My next interest was going to be a Corbin heated seat. but alas. that will be your task if you need the addition of a bun warmer. I have ridden this bike in the low 30's and I have the right equipment and clothing to be very comfortable for 1-2 hours as long as it is not raining cats and dogs. I have always wanted to take a multi-state trip because this bike was made for things like that. And I may still do it while I wait on a buyer so the miles could go up a thousand or two!
You can purchase brand new 2012's and 2013's for around $11. 50 so I am pricing this bike to sell. My add ons will be a benefit for you but you won't have to pay for them since I am pricing the bike as per the market value according to the publications.
Here are some facts about this bike:
The 1400GTR is fitted with a keyless ignition. nbsp;KIPASS (Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System). 2] which means that no key is needed to start the bike as long as the rider is carrying the coded transponder—typically in a pocket.
From launch the 1400GTR had the option of an anti-lock braking system (ABS). In 2010. Kawasaki added KTRC. atraction control system. and replaced the previous ABS systems with K-ACT (Kawasaki Advanced Coactive-braking Technology). an improved system with power-assisted brake force redistribution. [5] K-ACT is also a combined braking system in which both the front and rear brakes are applied in differing amounts depending on whether the front brake lever or rear brake pedal is used. The rider is able to select. using a handlebar switch. the amount of front brake force applied when the rear brake pedal is used. [6] The traction control uses the ABS sensors to detect when the front and rear wheel speeds differ—reducing rear wheel speed by telling the engine management system to reduce power output. [6]
For 2010. Kawasaki made significant revisions including adding KTRC traction control and K-ACT ABS and brake assist. as well as linked brakes[5] which are optional in some markets and standard in others. The 2010 model also features revised bodywork to improve engine cooling. mirrors raised by 40 mm (1. 6 in). a larger wind screen and with memory function and auto-lowering. a heat shield across the mid section of the exhaust pipe. a handlebar-mounted switch to control the dash computer. variable heated grips. 5] an optional "Fuel Economy Assistance Mode" that tells the ECU to use a leaner. more economical air-fuel ratio at engine speeds less than 6. 00 rpm and road speed less than 80 mph (130 km/h). [6] The tank-mounted storage area was removed and replaced with an auto-locking glove box in the left fairing. the exhaust silencer cap was changed. the two color seat was replaced a single color model. the instrument cluster illumination was changed from red to white. included key sets were changed from two active fobs/keys to one active fob/key and one passive mini fob/key. the front fork fluid levels were increased by 25ml. and the oil pan was modified so that the drain plug faces forward instead of downward to prevent damage. The ECU was programmed to limit top speed to 154 mph. The rear pannier covers were fully painted (instead of leaving a black area at the bottom). Many people refer to the 2010+ models as the 2nd generation (or "Gen 2") of the C14.
2011No significant changes were made between the 2010 and 2011 models. although ABS ceased to be an option and became standard. A new color. "Atomic Silver" was offered in addition to black for this model year.
2012On the 2012 model. the silver wheels and grab bars were replaced with black ones.
2013Unchanged other than a new body color option of Pearl Gray for Canada and Nocturne Blue the USA.
2014Unchanged. Body color options of Metallic Spark Black and Candy Cardinal Red in both the USA and Canada (Metallic Graphic Grey instead of Red for Europe).
AwardsIn 2008 and 2009. the Concours 14 was named best touring bike in Motorcyclist magazine Motorcycle of the Year awards. [8][9] It was also named best sport-touring bike by Cycle World magazine for 2008 and 2009. [10]
It also won the 2011 Sport Tourer Shootout on Motorcyclist versus the Honda VFR1200F. BMW K1300S and Triumph Sprint GT.
