Hi and thanks for looking at this auction for my 1982 850 Moto Guzzi err Bobber/chop/rat bike (delete as appropriate) originally a California. identifiable by the long side stand and the log book description. The bike is great fun to blat about on and pulls like a train but as I now have two others. one (at least one) needs to go. According to the boss. I’ve only got on a*se!
The good points are that is has an MOT until November 2015. the only advisory being the rear tyre is getting low in the tread department. It has a very sweet engine which starts easily and makes all the right noises through the Harley silencers. not too loud either. The gearbox has new linkages and is a delight to use. not at all what I was expecting to be honest. This is the only bike I have ever had that does not even twitch when you select 1st gear.
The handlebars. rear mudguard. LED tail light. mirrors. speedo cable and footpegs are all brand new. as is the tool bag. The rear shocks are Koni Dial-a-rides which I would have transferred to my Laverda if they had been the correct length. The linked brakes are still there and work too. via braided brake hoses I might add. The ignition is electronic.
I have recently serviced it. changing the oil. setting valve clearances and stripping. cleaning out and balancing the carbs. All very easy to do. it’s a pleasure to work on.
The last two photos show it as I bought it and the ape hangers and rear mudguard will be donated to the lucky winner if they want them. A legal numberplate is also part of the sale. The front mudguard was very rusty so I took it off but having fitted a larger front tyre it won’t go back on. Bobbers look better without one anyway.
The bad points can mostly be seen in the photos. it’s cosmetically a bid scabby and the wheels could do with a refurb. However. many people like the rat look. There are no indicators but the flasher units (yes. two of them - it had hazard flashers originally) are still under the tank so it shouldn’t be too hard to reinstate them. There is also a crack in the rear mudguard close to the seat where my drill slipped when I was fitting it – most annoying. It’s not terribly noticeable but they are only ?15 here on eBay. Ref No 261417386241.
So. there you have it. These old Guzzis are gaining popularity. particularly the round barrel 850s and this one is all ready for a new owner to enjoy and perhaps change to suit their taste – to a Caf? racer even?
I am situated in Merstham. near Reigate in Surrey close to the J8 of the M25. Postcode RH1 3HL should a viewing be requested – and I would recommended it. Text or call me on 07963 872196 or hit the “ask a question” icon below for more information or to arrange a viewing. Check my feedback for peace of mind. over 1000 and never a negative. nor neutral in all that time – and I don’t intend to change that now.
Cash on collection preferred or direct bank transfer before taking the bike away (obviously) please. No Paypal please. I don't mind low feedback bidders - we all have to start like that. but if the winning bidder mucks me about they will be reported. You bid to buy blah blah blah. There is no “Buy it now” and the reserve is realistic – if it doesn’t sell I will keep it.
Thanks again for looking and happy bidding……….
Glen.
