Description

I bought the Ariel HS in 2004 it had been completely disassembled.  A friend who knows Ariel singles better than the back of his own hand re assembled and re built the bike for me.  We understood the engine had been rebuilt some years earlier. The engine and frame are original to the bike and the engine and frame numbers are all correct and matching. The bike was sold to me as an Ariel HS Mk 3. i. e. . the road going version of the competition scrambler Ariel HS Mk1. We decided to re fit the bike as an HS Mk1 scrambler rather than the HS Mk3 road bike in order that I could motocross with the PRE 65 Motocross Club with my Ariel mate. who was helping to rebuild the bike. Before replacing the engine to the frame we took the cylinder head off the engine and noted it had new and larger BSA inlet valves fitted (a recognised improvement on Ariel 500 singles) as well as a big new 9 to 1 piston fitted. The piston was removed and checked before being re fitted.   The gearbox was inspected and the gears were found to be fine for road use but not good enough for competition so new gearbox cogs / internals (using the original gearbox casings) were fitted. We fitted a new AMAL carb with the correct jets for an HS MK1 (the scrambler version of the Ariel HS) a new Ariel motocross exhaust. a new seat. new wheels and tyres. uprated sidecar / motocross springs for the shocks. new chain. handle bars. levers and cables.   We fabricated the correct oil tank and air cleaner for the HS Mk1. keeping the original HS Mk 3 oil tank and tool box in tact. The bike has its original fuel tank which we left un painted.  New foot pegs were fabricated. Unfortunately I only raced the bike twice with the PRE 65 Motocross Club and the bike has stood in my garage un used for the last 10 years gathering dust! I have kept the original HS Mk3 parts in case I decided to put the bike back on the road as an HS Mk3 and they include the oil tank. tool box. clocks. the very rare headlight nacelle. the original magneto (the dynamo is missing) and the Amal carb with Mk 3 jets.  Original Ariel parts can be expensive to buy these days and the spares listed above will form part of the sale. The Ariel presently has a racing magneto fitted which does not belong to me so would not form part of the sale. Second hand magnetos come up for sale from time to time. but BTH sell excellent new magnetos at quite reasonable prices.  ]The bike does not have a V5 document and is not registered for the road. The Ariel is located near to Colchester in Essex. Please email me should you wish to ask any questions and viewing is very welcome. UK Bidders only.
