Description

Ariel 500cc all alloy engine. big carb. supposedly very high compression. nbsp; 1958 frame number CAPR10070. nbsp; the engine is earlier possibly 1952. nbsp;it has a four digit number on it but. it seems not to mean anything to anyone. nbsp;  it has. through bolted. head. barrel. and crank case. I'm told by the club that this was an attempt by the factory to stop the barrels shearing off above the mouth of the crank case. which I'm told they did when they 'let go' in a big way. nbsp; it has a 21" front wheel and a 19" rear wheel. nbsp; I don't know anything about its history. nbsp; I have tried to find out about the engine. but. nobody will commit to what it is without 'pulling it to bits'. nbsp; it certainly looks like a competition unit to me. but. you must decide. what it is and  if it's a bike for you. ask any questions or come to view.

I bought some bikes off an elderly French gent who lived in London. he'd owned this own for approx. thirty years and hardly used it. he said it was too difficult to ride in traffic. nbsp; too aggressive when accelerating and then trying to throw you over the bars when shutting the throttle. nbsp; I'm passing on his description in good faith. I haven't ridden it. although I have had it running. nbsp; although it does run. please be aware that it will need a thorough going over before use. therefore it is being sold as a project. and certainly not for immediate use.

The tank is an Ariel one but. it has been fitted with Royal Enfield badge strips. nbsp; the old boy was a bit eccentric he liked to think that people wouldn't know what it was when he zoomed past them although as I say I don't think he rode it much. at all.

With it is the modern V5c. nbsp; some old photo copies of Red Hunter workshop manuals and various other bits of info.   that's about it I think. please ask any questions or come to view it you're not too far away. nbsp; thanks for  looking and good luck should you decide to bid. nbsp;   The Panther is from the same stable and is also for sale.
