Montesa 1973 VR 250 early straight fin

 Up for auction is my 1973 Montesa VR 250. This is an early version with the straight cylinder fins. serial number for frame and engine match 73M5399.  I am not sure how many with the straight fins were produced. but I was told about 200.

I have had this bike for about 25 years. the original owner is a friend of mine. and he was a Montesa rider that rode International events in the late 60's. early 70's. I have the original MSO with his name as the buyer brand new.

I have rebuilt or replaced pretty much everything on the bike inside and out. The engine ran strong when I got it. For the rebuild I only needed to install new main bearings. seals. a sliding dog in the transmission. and piston rings.

 The chassis was painted in the style of the original. no powder coat. Many original parts were left on as they were in really good condition.  The pipe has been hand repaired by cutting into sections and reshaping the parts. then welding them back together. NOS parts are the kick lever bottom. OEM original petcocks. which I have not had gas in yet. Montesa grips. OEM cables. seat cover. NOS muffler with hanger.     I also have an OEM NOS rear fender and Pirelli front tire I have not yet installed. One fork boot issplit. but I have another that will be installed before shipment. as well as mounting the NOS Pirelli front tire.

I have not started it since I did the work in 2005. It has been mainly a show bike for me. and a little nostalgia. but I have another VR that I race. These VR's are fast. and handle very much like a Maico. I have tried all the bikes from that era to compare.
