This is another Vintage Motorcycle that I am offering here today. this one is without a doubt the rarest of them all - It is a Torpedo 150 from the famous Manufactorer Torpedeo Werke A. G. Frankfurt / Germany. A beautiful piece of History from Post War Germany. This Torpedo is so rare that even Google will not do you all that good. but I'll attach the amazing Company History at the end of the listing. Back in the 1950's they had two engines available - a 150 cc and a 175 cc. where the 175 cc was the much more desirable engine. it produced about 3 HP more than the 150 cc engine. a revolution back than. This Torpedo 150 has the Factory Upgraded 175 cc engine with engine Nr. # 1353650 - Torpedo used exclusively Fichtel & Sachs engines. The 175 cc engine boosts 9 - 9. HP. This Classic Motorcycle is all original and in good running condition - it is truly fantastic and a dream for any collector. It will be close to impossible that you pull up with this Torpedo Bike and you'll see another one - anywhere. As rare as the bike is itself - it's Provenance and History is equally rare. I have the original German Title and the first Registartion was on March 11th. 1953 ( see picture ) I also have the original current Title with it's original Regitration. the bike was registered in Germany until August 15th. 2013!!! -( see picture ) The matching Vin Nr. is documented through out. first you can see it in the Title #601640 - than on the Bikes ID Tag and than on the frame below the passanger seat. Absolutely stunning. History [edit]The company was founded in 1896 by brothers Peter and Henry Because as "Peter Weil & Co". The manufacturing started with nine employees in a 500-square-meter hall in Roedelheim. The wheels that were assembled there from parts. were driven under the brand name "Weil-wheels" and "Torpedo-wheels". 1906 began the manufacture of typewriters. first with one of the company Johann Cultures & Co. of Neu-Isenburg assumed model. but which has been constantly developed. The typewriters were marketed under the name Torpedo. On November 30. 1921. Weil works were in a corporation Transformed. 1927 appeared with the standard model torpedo the first German typewriter with bank switching. The model could be supplied with carriage of different length. Since 1931 there was the majority shareholder of the torpedo-Werke AG in possession of Remington Rand Inc. . New York. Except typewriters built torpedo also booking engines. from 1932 with a mechanical calculator and Einziehautomaten for debit cards. From 1938 the bikes created at a new plant on Hanauer Landstrasse. the office machinery manufacturing remained in Roedelheim. During the Second World War in 1943 the bicycle factory and in 1944 the main plant in Roedelheim was destroyed in the air raids on Frankfurt am Main. After the war. the reconstruction of the production began in Frankfurt. Alzenau and wholesale Karben. The product range included motorcycles and mopeds to 175 cc. typewriters and bicycles. Engines for motorcycles came from Fichtel & Sachs and Ilo. After the number of employees had risen to 2. 00 in 1956. came on bicycles and mopeds gradually a market saturation and office machines they were no longer competitive. In 1967 the production was stopped.
