This is a special bit of kit as i am sure those looking already know. A Maico 500 of late 1980`s vintage as last of the line being the water cooled engine. also known as Gm500 or Mstar in the states. engine. which evolved into being the basis of the fantastic Zabel engines. Despite the engine cover this isnt a Zabel and is JUST(!) a Maico 500. Housed in a genuine VMC chassis of date unknown but frame number shown in the photos so feel free to contact them for exact date if that is important to you. Bought as a non-running whim from a bloke who did the weston super mare beach race on it. brave sole. I have invested significant cash and time in this to have only ridden it up and down my road. due to other racing commitments. So. The engine has been completely rebuilt with new piston. rings. seals. bearings. kickstart rachet. water pump cover and clutch plates. i dont have the receipt as a mate did the work but am sure he could provide evidence but as i have publicly declared it im not going to break trades description act by lying. Then i fitted an electrex world CDI/ignition to try and make it easier to startkickstart lengthened so you can get a proper swing on the thing!Brand new rear tyre and i have a spare rear wheel for quick and easy gear changing as opposed to swapping sprockets. i had a naive idea of road registering it and having a road legal tyre on the spare wheel. although bearing has spun in hub . bearing lock is all that is needed (spare wheel not one in bike)I have spare Bing carb as well. In total i have invested over £700 in this bike ignoring its original purchase cost. for about 1/2 mile of fun. It has to be said it isnt the easiest bike to start from cold. unless i just dont have the technique. but always starts just as you are checking your BUPA membership!!!However. once warm is usually 2nd or 3rd kick. i have set ignition at 1. 2mm BTDC but i think it could be advanced as 1. 7mm BTDC but i didnt fancy the kickback. There is a decompressor but it isnt hard to kick over just that the threshold of the ignition needs a damn good swing with confidence. and yes it does vibrate like a road drill as the engine is mounted solidly in the frame. but boy it sounds nice. I have attached a link to my photobucket page with video footage of it running today. in case people think that it doesnt run. If you want to inspect let me know if you want it pre-warmed and easy to start or if you fancy a go from cold. As can be seen from the photos it isnt perfect and needs some more tidying and i think the front shocks are on their last legs with oil leakage evident. make unknown but doubt they are Reiger. Rear shock is an ohlins. and appears ok but will of course be rebuildable if needed. Due to the nature of this vehicle i am happy for any inspection. and will do my very best to answer any queries you may have. I am sure the chassis can take other engines but i am not breaking. it will sell as a complete bike as getting rare now and may be eligible for classic racing. but do check for yourself. http://s602. photobucket. com/user/neandethal/library/?sort=3&page=1Obviously this is collection only and cash is preferred payment option
