The company Monet et Goyon was formed in 1917 by Joseph Monet and Adrien Goyon. It began manufacturing invalid carriages for disabled WW1 veterans. In 1920 they became agents for the British Autocycle company and then in 1922 produced their first motorcycle. During the 1920's they built an excellent reputation for sporty flat tank bikes such as the Z147 and 175. The company had considerable racing success including winning the Bol Dor six times between 1927 and 1948. The company continued to build bikes until its closure in 1959. The factory was in Macon. one hour north of Lyon. France.
The condition/appearance of the bike is original and it has a lovely patina. The tank is clean on the inside with just a couple of small dents and corrosion on the surface. nothing serious. Overall the bike just looks right for a 1930's racer. Mechanically it all seems good. No attempt has been made to start the bike and I believe it was last run some 60 years ago. The engine turns over fine with good compression and don?ˆ™t think it will take a lot to get this bike running. The brakes and clutch are working fine.
Once checked through and running this bike will grace any period bike event such as the Quail or Legend of the Motorcycle. but it would also be a lovely addition to any collection or museum and/or do great on display against a wall. entrance. office or living.
With the bike is an original 1952 entrance form for a French bike race. which document is issued by the Federation Francaise de Motocyclisme (FFM). Furthermore attached to this document is a hand written (and hallmarked by the commissioner of the police) request to participate with this event.
The FFM license number that is on the entrance form is also stamped into the frame of the bike. which number is hallmarked on the side with a star-shaped stamping and code.
The bike has never been road-registered. but I will provide the buyer an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium. plus I?ˆ™ll make sure that all the correct export-paperwork will be in place before the bike leaves from here. which documents will make the process of importing it into the US an easy ride. -On this listing I'm offering a special (fully sealed) m'cycle crate. careful packing and physical shipping from here in Belgium to a US warehouse of the shipping-company as close as possible to you at my expense.
