CANTERBURY LAUNCH SIDECARIf you want a truly fabulous old sidecar. very rare. ready to use and in good working order this might be the one. I'm having to sell due to a house move otherwise I would keep it. I know something of the history:-The s/car came in to my possession this year but the earlier owner had it since 1983. He bought it because it was attached to a 1958 Ariel Hunt Master 650 twin which. when new. had had the side car attached. Prior to that the s/car had been attached to an older bike. He really wanted the Ariel rather than the sidecar so it went into storage in a fully dehumidified cellar for many years. It has a tax disc indicating it was last in use in 1974. The combination had been on display in the Nostell Priory Museum but in 1983 the museum wanted the space for other purposes and so several vehicles had to go. So. we know that the combination was in use from 1958 - 1974 for sure. then into the museum until 1983. then stored until 2014. Earlier history is not truly known. Although it is fact that the chassis and running gear are Canterbury. the body may or may not be made by Canterbury. In fact the nearest picture I can get of a Launch Sidecar similar to this one isshown in a Swallow brochure for 1937. Canterbury Chassis fitted with Launch type single seat coupe top with sunroof. Sprung frame. Braked wheel with pedal and all fittings and in working order. The brake pedal can be used to brake the sidecar wheel alone or both sidecar and the bike's rear wheel. Side door. Aluminium/wood bodywork and the coupe top and back and the boot are fabric covered in matching red cloth. Colour is Ariel red and black. Windscreen wiper - hand operated!Reserve petrol tank built into the underneath at the rear with valve etc to enable transfer to the bikes tank via a pump and tube. Many. many small medallions collected as the combination travelled around the country all attached to the rear bodywork. Spot light - hand controlled. Radio aerial. Bakelite ashtray!Sunvisor. Picnic hamper. All fittings. most likely fit to an Ariel Huntmaster. but I'm told they are the same as those for an an A10 (BSA). I have just sold to a friend about 150 different sidecar attachment fittings and will pass on his details to anybody that buys this. Fabulous interior - could use a clean but very very comfortable and cosy - large parcel shelf behind passenger's head. The boot is also enormous. There is loads of space for luggage. There is really nothing to do to this except a general check over/service and touch up some of the scratches that can be seen in the photos. Personally I like the scratches etc - keeps it's personality. Contact from buyer on the day the auction ends is essential. Cash and collection within 7 days. Cash on collection only. No deposit required. No buy it Now. I
