Description

Enfield India Diesel WITH NO GEARBOX FITTED. This is my Enfield Diesel. It is fitted with a 412cc Kubota OC95 Diesel engine. I fitted the engine myself in a custom made cradle that bolts onto the downtube and the base of the seat-tube. I used the bike regularly for two years. but have now moved on to a new diesel project for which I have kept the gearbox and the clutch. The bike was fitted with a late Enfield 5 speed gearbox to overcome the big gap between 3rd and 4th gears on the standard box. Having said that. the bike is torquey and would probably work fine with the standard four speed unless you live somewhere really hilly. I have to be honest about this bike; while I was extremely pleased with it. it does approximately 170mpg. it is not really good for long journeys. The top speed is about 55mph on a good day. but the engine has quite a hard diesel 'knock' which I found rather tiring over longer distances. On quiet back roads it can be a real pleasure; using the torque and rolling on and off the throttle it is in its element. This is a 1984 Enfield and has only 6 inch brakes. The SLS on the front is poor. shockingly so compared to most modern brakes. and although I found that using both brakes and the engine the stopping is adequate. emergency braking situations can be heartstopping. I always intended to uprate the front brake but never got round to it. If you are interested in buying this then budget for an upgrade unless you're used to weak brakes. The bike is in fairly good condition; the chrome on the back rim is acceptable. the front is poor. the silencer is acceptable. There is no battery. The engine runs and this can be demonstrated. I know very little about diesel engines and it might be possible to improve the diesel 'knock'. I have never found another Kubota OC95 to compare this one with. so I don't know if they are all like this. I have tried fitting a new injector nozzle. which made no difference. and I have been advised that the injector pump timing may need adjustment. However this is set by shimming the pump and is initially set during manufacturers assembly. so should be correct. There are one or two little jobs that want doing. but nothing much. The bike is registered as a diesel. This is a cheap way to get into the Diesel experience. This is offered for cash on collection only. no Paypal. UK auction only. There is no tax or MOT.
