1975 Suzuki TM400 located in North Carolina. My friends have quit racing vintage bikes. so I guess I have too. It sits in my basement under a sheet.
Fully AHRMA legal for Vintage Sportsman 500cc class. It falls under the post 1974 like design clause and the Works Performance shocks have the travel limit spacers for 4" of rear travel with the factory 1975 swing arm.
Engine built by head Suzuki Mechanic at our local shop. who used to race these bikes when new. Most everything in the engine was NOS Suzuki parts. I think the piston may have been Weisco.
. 20 over bore piston (this top end may have 3 hours on it. max)
Polished intake and exhaust ports
Stripped the paint from the exterior of the cylinder to look cool with the natural Circle F pipe.
Replaced crank bearings and seals. etc. Checked everything out in the bottom end.
Metal ring in crank removed for safe removal of oiler. it runs pre-mix
Replaced clutch plates and springs
Most all of the transmission bearings were replaced with NOS.
All Gaskets. folding washers. etc replaced.
NOS Suzuki CDI box replaced
Compression release added to help with starting
Replaced Mikuni Carb - depending on where it lands it could still be a little rich on top end. it is here.
NOS air filter replaced
Circle F expansion chamber/pipe (I also repacked the stinger with FMF 2 stroke muffler packing)
Engine cases are a matched set from a 73 engine. with all of the 75 parts. I busted the '75 cases in Florida about 6 years ago. I found the nice set of '73's that still have the engine number not broken off.
I have boxes of spare engine and miscellaneous parts I have acquired. some new and some used parts. These go with the bike.
Chasis:
Frame did break behind the left side foot peg. I had it repaired at Specialty Fabrication. Inc. We also at the recommendation of the Suzuki Mechanic. add a couple of triangle gussets in two key areas of the frame to help with the plaguing frame flex. It did help with the handling.
Repainted Frame
Works Performance shocks. springs for 200lb+ rider.
I do have a fork seal that has started leaking (full disclosure as I know it)
Spokes replaced in both wheels - Rear NOS Suzuki. Front Buchanan Spokes.
Dunlop tires in good condition
Replaced brake shoes. repainted hubs.
Vintage Suzuki Fenders
Vintage Suzuki seat foam and cover. I repainted the original base. but someone else re-welded the tab. and it sits a 1/4" higher on one side (this bugged me looking at it. but I always forgot about fixing it).
Replaced Bars Renthal Vintage bend. Cycra shields. Motion Pro Throttle. new levers. cables. grips. aluminum bar ends.
Repainted tank with Vintage Suzuki decals
There was a small amount of surface rust in the tank. I cleaned it out. keep fuel in it to prevent more rust. and run a fuel filter. Not had any issues with the tank in the 9 plus years of owning it. I hate the tank creams.
Replaced chain and sprockets
Vintage Bike Stand goes with it too. Ebay description required a title to be noted. the bike is pure off road/motocross and the State of NC does not issue titles for non-street legal motorcycles.
