Description

T140D - Built at Meriden November 1979 - first registered 01/01/80 - owned by me since 1987. Less than 19000 miles - totally rebuilt 2004-6. inc full engine rebuild by P&R Motorcycles of Pudsey (see below). Rare opportunity - this is only the sixth T140D to leave the production line. OK. so it now looks very unlike the original T140D but. hey - bikes are made to modify. right? My inspiration was somewhere between the '66 T120 TT model and a period 'State-side flat-tracker. Shown at Classic Bike Magazine's 70's Day (North) 2008 and featured in Magazine. Shown at Harewood Classic Show 2008. Show winner 2009 - awarded "Best Bike" at Pistons at Dawn. If you like to stand out from the crowd this could be the one for you. if you like original then. sorry. it's not. I've owned this bike for the last 27 years. so I've got shedloads of pics of this bike and lots of info I can pass on so I invite you to text me (07754 309931)with your enquiry (inc your email address) if you want specific information and some bigger photos sending. The last two pics above are current (ie 2014/5). I ran the bike (in standard form) as my regular transport from 1987 until 1990 or so. it was then laid up until 2003 when the rebuild began. This was doneover an extended period. as time and money allowed (young family and all that). The bike was then used very occasionally as a toy. it's last serious use wasduring a week at the Manx GP in 2009. Since then it's really been a sunny Sunday bike. In amongst there has been much polishing and various maintenancecarried out between MOTs. The bike is quite well known in the Airedale and Wharfedale area and always attracts attention. For a start though here are some of the mods/work done in 2003-5 . Frame etc:Powder-coated frame. Powder-coated swing arm. new bearings. New fork stanchions. New head bearings. New wheel bearings. Powder-coat various other parts/brackets etcEngine rebuilt:New sludge-trap. New crankshaft bearings. New big-end shells. New camshaft bushes. Bore hone and barrels p/coated. +20 Hepolite pistons (9. 1:1 comp ratio)Head skim. New front sprocket. New gaskets. Valve check/grind. New drive chain. Then there's other work/mods been done since (mainly 2006-2008). Fully custom-made wiring loom. Retro-fit 1971 export tank (rare. large-capacity East Coast spec). New paint - white with red pearlescent stripes. New tank badges. chrome trim. petrol cap and taps. Modify rear frame loop. Flat-track seat/tail unit - painted to match tank. New instrument brackets/rubber cups. New headlight brackets. Pazon electronic ignition. Solid-state rectifier. Carbs rebuilt (new jets. needles). New throttle twist-grip. New Meguro front master cylinder. New brake pads. Then there's other stuff (2012 ish). Alloy h/bars. New rear sprocket. New rear shocks. Fit Yamaha rear brake m/cyl (inc make custom bracket). Carbs rebuilt again - new slides (made a world of difference!)New Avon Roadriders. And. in 2014:New base Gasket. New Head Gasket (Composite). Valve-grind/clearances. New Piston rings ('cos I broke one refitting the barrels - lol). New pushrod tube 'O'rings. New rocker-box gaskets. New Pazon Ignition module. New 6v Ignition coils. New Battery (Yuasa). New Ignition switch. New Iridium spark plugs. Various gaskets/o-rings/seals. All gaskets/seals are LF Harris. rings are LF Harris too. Probably lots more bits done and certainly many. many years of experience and knowledge put into this machine to get it right. You know. they really werea bit crap when they came out of Meriden (the electrics being particularily bad!) and they actually reckon only 10% of Bonnies from this era were good ones. This one's sorted - but it's taken a lot of time. money and knowledge to get it here - and knowledge takes a lot of years to acquire. And why's it up for grabs? - Well. just because you've owned something for so long doesn't mean you have to keep it forever. I really just don't ride it anymore. nd I've got plenty of other bikes and projects to keep me busy. I don't need to sell it - but I will to the right person. You know. there's always plenty to do to thesemachines. always more you can do to them if you feel the need (if I kept it I'd probably end up doing Spitfire exhaust cam. a crank balance. a gas-flow) but I reallythink I've taken it as far as I wanted to now. And. with other bikes and projects. I hardly get time to ride it. In fact the MOT certs show just over 2000 miles covered in last five years: 2009 to 2011 - 697 miles(not used/tested in 2010). 2011/12 - 906 miles. 2012/13 - 335 miles. 2013/14 - just 43 miles. And only 167 miles since October 2014's test (three rides). Also. my wife would quite like a new kitchen. Not being a newly restored/built bike it does have a few scratches here and there. but overall very good - come and take a look if you're able. After latest ride (last week) I've noticed one of the fork seals is just starting to go - new ones (LF Harris) are now ordered and will be installed before end of listing. As you'd expect. it always draws a crowd. always gets people talking to you. makes a lot of noise and goes like stink when revved (and yes. you're meant to rev Triumphs). It's also got plenty of stomp lower down too. It's an experience and it's a joy to ride around on and watch people's faces. I really don't know what its worth (to you). ut I know what it's worth to me - so that's the starting price. There's no reserve and if you win it then I'd want ?100 deposit by paypal immediately and the rest bybank transfer on collection. And you're bidding to buy - not tyre-kick. I might be open to very sensible offers and I do have various receipts and lots of pics relating to thework done over the past few years. Best if you come and see/hear it. eh?For more pics and spec please go here - http://www. highfieldmoto. com/page9. htmlPlease ask for any other details and/or photos you'd like sending (txt your email to me on 07754 309931). Better still. come and see it. Looking over it with amug of tea is no problem. Yes. I'll be sorry to see it go - but I'll hopefully be functioning again within a couple of weeks. Thanks for looking - Nige
