1973 Triumph Hurricane X75
I acquired this bike in 2011 from a gentleman on the Isle of Man. The bike was his pride and joy. He had fully restored it and won prizes with it. but needed to sell it in order to take on another project.
Despite this. I almost had to prise his fingers off it when I went over to collect it!
The bike was pretty perfect. I’m no expert. but the previous owner was a real aficionado. and I could tell that this was a guy who wanted every last washer to be correct.
Since I bought the bike. it has covered only a few hundred miles.
I bought it to form part of our collection of iconic bikes from the sixties. seventies and eighties. It has spent most of its life sat on a pallet high up in our dry and overly heated warehouse.
It had never been our intention to sell any of our bikes. but our circumstances have changed. and we are now offering for sale all the bikes in our collection. For details of all the bikes. email Kelly@grandprixlegends. com
The bike’s longest ride probably came when Classic Bike borrowed it earlier this year for a road test. It appeared on the front cover of the magazine. and Ben Miller. the editor. told me afterwards that it was the nicest classic bike he had ever ridden!
I’m not going to say anything about the Hurricane as a bike. The story of the X75 is well documented. and if you’ve got this far you probably know the background.
What I can tell you is that this is an immaculately prepared machine that requires nothing. It is a well sorted bike that starts easily and rides beautifully. It’s as shiny as a new penny.
It’s not my thing. but I’m sure it could win prizes.
The mileage currently reads 9860. I’ve got lots of MOTs. but as an import. I cannot confirm whether the mileage is correct.
Which brings me to the thorny issue of price.
I have seen some quite ropey looking Hurricanes that will clearly require a lot of attention. being offered for ?25. 00 or more.
I have heard of some Hurricanes changing hand for exalted sums. but we have decided that we want ?30. 00 for our bike. We think that this is the fair and proper price for an example of this quality.
But what I must point out is that our price is firm. We will not be entertaining offers.
So please. only come and see the bike. which is located at our offices on the outskirts of Guildford. if you are happy to pay the asking price.
With is dramatic looks. and rarity. the Hurricane is a blue chip investment in our eyes. If you’re looking for the best example out there. this may well be it.
