1987 YZ490 - Time capsule - AHRMA - Vintage motocross

Description

 Up for sale is my 1987 Yamaha YZ490. This is a good clean bike that has had an easy life compared to most. I purchased from the original owner many years ago. He kept it in his basement most of its life. From the time I purchased this bike about 5 years ago to the present day I have only ridden it once when it was delivered to me. It has spent the rest of the time in the collection getting started once or twice a year and then fuel drained. This is by no means cosmetically perfect but you would be hard pressed to find an 87 YZ490 that looks this good.  I will go into as much detail as possible below but if you have additional questions please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to answer your questions. I do not have a title for this bike but will provide a Bill of Sale to the new owner.

Bike details:

Motor : motor is tight . runs and shifts as it should. Kick starter is tight and clutch works fine. Bodywork - as far as I can see all of the plastic is original except the air scoop right above the left side of the cylinder head. I believe the stock one should be black. The tank is even in very nice shape considering the age. Decals look very nice except for the decals on the fork bottoms but I do have new ones. I will try to install them if I have time but either way the buyer will receive them with the bike. Seat: the cover. foam and seat pan is in excellent condition. Tires: there is about 90-95% tread left and these are beefy tires on this bike. Rims: rims are in pretty good shape with a few scuffs here and there. Spokes are nice and will clean up to a shine. Exhaust: Pipe is an aftermarket nickel plated and I am pretty sure it has the stock silencer on itSuspension: forks have good rebound and don't leak . fork boots look very nice. Rear shock was serviced right before I purchased the bike and is also good. Controls: all cables. perches and levers are in nice shape. Bars are fairly new. The front brake reservoir will need more fluid because the lever action seems soft. May need to rebuild the front caliper. The kit for this is readily available. Frame: frame is straight with no bends or repairs I can see. Some of the paint has rubbed off from use over the years. arb: carb is stock and works fine. It would probably be a good idea to remove and clean prior to use. The hot ticket for this bike is to replace the stock reeds with Tassinari carbon fiber reed cage assembly. This is a bolt on upgrade that makes a bike difference in throttle response.

SHIPPING:  costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. I don't mind holding the bike for a while once it is paid for. I realize it takes time to make shipping arrangements and I want to make this a stress free experience for the buyer. I do have a pretty good list of shippers I would be happy to pass on to you.
