History of the Yamaha YZ250B:The early seventies were a fast-moving time for Yamaha. In the United States, amaha along with Don Jones and his sons Gary and DeWayne, ad developed the DT-1 enduro bike into a motocross racer. That early Yamaha MX 250 later evolved into the stunning 1974 YZ250A model. Meanwhile over in Europe, amaha hired 4-time World Champion Torsten Hallman in 1971 (from Husqvarna), o develop and race bikes in the European World Championship Series . By June 1972 a prototype monoshock bike had been developed, nd racer Hakan Andersson took this bike to a first-ever World Championship in 1973. As this new "works" bike became successful on the world stage, amaha continued plans to bring it into full production. This first-year monoshock bike - and the technology behind it - was introduced to the United States and the rest of the world as the brand new 1975 YZ250B.
About this motorcycle:
Complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. This bike was built to a high standard. Special attention was paid to the fit, inish and appearance of the entire bike, ut like all restorations, s not a perfect motorcycle. Not every imperfection was sanded, ainted or polished out of the finish of the bike. The small imperfections that remain are a nod toward the racing history and heritage that makes these motorcycles special. That said, his YZB is a professional build and it is one of the best I have seen. Many NOS parts were collected over a 2 year period and used in this project. All throughout the bike, he attention to detail is evident and the fit and finish of all parts is superb.Cosmetically, want to mention two two small blemishes I saw while inspecting the bike. The first is a very small nick in the clear coat of the gas tank - located just forward of the gas cap. The second is one small blemish on the anodized finish of the front rim.Mechanically, he bike was rebuilt top to bottom with new parts, ncluding a lot of NOS parts used in both the engine and the chassis. The only variance from stock is the substitution of a CDI unit from a Yamaha MX model in place of the YZ unit which had failed. I would have never noticed this, s the two CDI units are identical in appearance except for part number. The owner made me aware of this change in order to ensure full disclosure on the build. The YZ CDI unit comes with the bike if you choose. The owner tells me he has spent approximately $12,000 for the core bike, he parts and the restoration costs. I don't doubt it based on the receipts I've seen and the typical costs of a high-end restoration of this quality.
