 1968 YAMAHA DT1 250 ENDURO

This motorcycle has been meticulously restored.   No corners were cut and only the finest quality paint and other materials were used.   The engine runs perfectly and the transmission shifts flawlessly. I usually paint my gas tanks myself but the 68 model has a very hard to match Pearl White.   I decided to take it to a professional that specializes in 68 DT1 tanks to do the job.   He absolutely nailed the stripe and the Pearl he used has that perfect Violet/Green hue that only came on the 68.   The extra cash I laid out for the paint was well worth it. All of the chrome has been triple plated and the white fender grommets and grey cables are correct.   I put many hours into this restoration with a goal of making it as accurate as possible. However. due to the uniqueness and the many changes during the short production run. it was almost impossible to get 100%.   The speedometer is from a later model DT1. There is a small area on the seat where my late kitty (No. She died of natural causes) decided to sharpen her claws. Fortunately. caught her before she could do too much damage (See Pictures). There is also a small area on the underside of the gas tank where the paint flawed slightly due to fuel contact before it completely cured. It is been repaired and is not noticeable from street view and does not affect the looks of the bike at all.   The battery is new and has not yet been filled or charged.   Please take a close look at the pictures and I'm sure you will agree that this is truly a beautiful motorcycle. perfect for riding as it is or displaying proudly.

A  BIT OF HISTORY.

The 1968 Yamaha DT1 Enduro was possibly the most important Japanese motorcycle ever produced.   The DT1 broke new ground in the motorcycle industry. For one. the DT1 was the first attempt by the Japanese to build an all-purpose dirt/street motorcycle that would appeal to the hard core enthusiast.   Prior to the release of the Yamaha DT-1. reliable. reasonably powerful and inexpensive dual purpose motorcycles simply didn?ˆ™t exist. Most gear heads of a certain age remember 1968 as the year the Yamaha DT-1 hit the scene and changed the face of motorcycling forever.    The 1968 DT-1 is more than a contender for Yamaha?ˆ™s most important motorcycle.   It?ˆ™s the bike that broke the entire Japanese motorcycle industry wide open.  Yamaha engineers came up with nothing short of a blockbuster motorcycle. One that did everything well ?ˆ“ just as the product-planners had scripted it. Enthusiasts loved it. Racers loved it. and dealers loved it.   The introduction of this motorcycle even surprised the staff at Yamaha when American enthusiasts gobbled up the initial production run of 12. 00 as fast as they hit the showroom floors.   All of which means it?ˆ™s pretty much impossible to overestimate the significance of the DT-1. or the effect it had on the industry.   Its technology. timing. performance and rid-ability were all shockingly spot-on.   Yamaha hit the nail on the head with DT1.   Yamaha's new DT1 completely left the competition blindsided.   It was the world?ˆ™s first serious dual-purpose concept?ˆ¦ and the rest. as they say. is history.
