Yamaha TT500 Not XT

Yamaha TT500. The more desirable 1981 model with factory fitted box section aluminium swinging arm and the usual TT magnesium casings and aluminium fuel tank etc. This bike has had just one owner for the last 26 years. the last 15 of which it has been laid up in a water tight garage. In June of this year. it was finally rolled out the garage. and a plan was hatched for a light restoration. After a quick wash. unbelievably. she started on the 3rd kick! (good old 4 star fuel!). After a quick run round the block. it was cleaned thoroughly. and stripped down to the bare frame. various cycle parts cleaned or taken back to bare metal and re-painted. and treated to a thorough engine de-grease. old paint removal and engine re-paint. The engine was rebuilt with new piston rings. a mild head porting and various new gearbox parts and clutch plates a few thousand miles before it was put into storage. As it runs so nicely. it was decided to leave alone. The carb was stripped and thoroughly cleaned (the idle jet was partially blocked). and the tank (and fuel tap) cleaned inside and out leaving the original pin stripes and logos. It has also been treated to a new clutch and front brake cable. new air filter. new handlebar grips. as well as new rear brake adjuster parts. and of course. a fresh set of chain and sprockets. It has new (original Yamaha!) side panels. though the graphics are replicas. imported from the States. The bike has been restored to keep. however. circumstances have changed meaning that sadly. it has ended up on here for sale. As such. there are still a few imperfections and non-standard parts. The mudguards are not original. Neither are the (Renthal) handle bars. Unfortunately. the odometer doesn't work. so there is no way of varifying a top end estimate of around 30. 00 miles. On the upside. it could well have significantly less mileage than 30. 00! At some point. the front brake cable guide on the brake plate has been re-welded. The fuel tank has a couple of dents in the left hand side (which I'm sure someone who knows their stuff could pull out reasonably easily). There are also a couple of smallish dents in the top of the tank. The seat base is original. but the seat foam and seat cover are not. It has a non original exhaust and shock absorbers. It has however. a full years MOT which it passed with no advisories!On the whole. it's an absolutely cracking bike. and one which will be sorely missed. Please be aware that you are bidding to buy.
