Unused since 1986!

You are looking at a fantastic Yamaha DT250MX Barn Find that was taken off the road in 1986. put under a tarpaulin in the back of a shed until it was re-commissioned.

Bike would make an excellent daily commuter that would appreciate in value or. due to the many original features. you could go straight into a fully blown or part restoration.

HISTORY

The bike was sold June 1979 by Comerfords of Thames Ditton. a motorcycle and scooter dealer that was a mecca for enthusiasts in the area. It was then passed through 2 or 3 owners until the last owner who put most of the miles on it by using it as a daily commute in the Rochester area.

He saved up for a car and put it away in a shed under a tarpaulin at only 7 years old in 1986. Last year. he asked a motorcycle dealer friend to re-commission the bike and get it through an MOT. Very little needed doing. ie

The bike was MOTd on July 2nd 2013 with 24. 60 miles. and I acquired it July 20th 2013 with the intention of doing a full restoration. having owned one as teenager. blowing away all my mates who had the DT175MX!

In the 18 months I have had it. it has been  unused and stored in a warm. dry garage. just regularly started to keep it in a running condition.

Unfortunately. I have been flat out a work ever since I bought it and just cannot afford the time to do the bike justice - Time to pass it on to someone who can.

ORIGINALITY

What attracted me to this bike for a project was the original condition and the small touches that would make it excellent for restoration. including

Parts needed to bring it back to standard condition are few and readily available. ie rear light/numberplate holder assembly. silencer and indicators. Oh. and feel free to junk the luggage rack and the brand new trail tyres!

I was half tempted to do a light resto job before selling but decided to leave exactly as I found it so you have the option to fully document your restoration and do it to your exact requirements.

MECHANICAL/OVERALL CONDITION

This bike is absolutely solid having only been on the road for seven years. Forks sound. wheel bearings good. swing arm bushes tight. rear shock nice and firm.

Engine is really sweet and settles down to a nice smoke free riding when warm. No sign of piston slap. bottom end rumbles and gearbox and clutch all fine.

Only issue is a little roughness in the running which feels fuel related - maybe just needs another carb clean or regular use. To this point. you would have no problem using this as a daily commuter if you wanted to pick up the restoration later on.

Pics give an excellent idea of condition and the minor issues you would expect. ie piece missing from the kickstart rubber. some slight tears at the bottom edge of the seat (easy to repair or replace)

I let the MOT lapse July 2014 but I am sure it would fly through again.
