Description

This little 1973 Yamaha 80 (YG1)  was bought earlier this year to sort of re-kindle my youth (I had an identical one back in the 1970’s)

This one had been sitting in a garage since last being taxed in 1990. Recorded mileage is 15. 00

I’ve carried out a ? restoration on it which includes new wheel rims / spokes / tyres and re-covering of the seat.  New front mudguard and chain guard. Petrol tap.  Partial engine strip to check auto lube pump. carburettor and magneto.

Exhaust port de-coked

I’ve also stripped and rebuilt the external gear change mechanism which on these bikes is usually the most over looked and most difficult bit to set up to function correctly. I have a factory print of the set up which can be printed off or e-mailed.

It has fresh gearbox oil and a new battery .

Cosmetically. it’s very good – the exhaust down pipe and silencer let it down. but function okay.

There is a dent on the headlight rim which I’ve knocked out. but it would benefit from replacement.

I bought a new clutch plate kit which since riding the bike I’ve found is not needed yet. but will be included.

I insured it and rode it to the MoT station in November and it passed the test with no problems.

During the trip to the garage I did realise that a bike which I thought was a little flyer when I was 8 stone. aged   14 doesn’t zing along in the same way when you’re a 15 stone 50 year old Grandad.

This little Yamaha is basically an FS1-E fore runner that was made into a 50cc later to satisfy the 16 year old learner law at the time.

Most  FS1-E bits are interchangeable – brake shoes. filters. indicators. rear light. headlight. petrol tap. switches etc. are available cheaply on E Bay.

The mudguard and chain guard fitted are FS1-E after -  market parts which fitted with no modification.

I paid ?400 for the bike as a non-running wreck back in April.   It’s now a tidy 42 year old runner.

I’ve spent at least ?400 on it plus my time.

It’s not immaculate. but with a new exhaust could get very close.

I’d like to get back about ?650. but I’m not setting a Reserve or a Buy It Now. Just a starting price.

I use and restore classic British bikes and have now taken off my rose tinted goggles and will stick to my Triumphs and BSA.

I can deliver for a  sensible rate. but would prefer cash on collection from Huddersfield. West Yorkshire.

V5C is currently at Swansea to change to Historic taxation class. Currently taxed in my name. but new rules don’t allow transfer.

Registration  No. is BUP 11L which is transferable
