The BSA Thunderbolt and this last configuration is underrated IMHO. I rebuilt this one from the ground up in 2000 with the engine done by Fred Twig of Manx Motors in Sonoma County CA. Had Boyer and later solid state rectifier installed. He declared at the time that this A65T was faster than his other customers A65L. (Northern CA BSA Owners Club hadan article by former BSA manager saying that the A65T was underratted and got better mileage than the A65L was more reliable and was just as fast. Litte known secret is that the later A65Ts were set up at the factory with the same cam as the A65T. Fred Twig had identified it at the time of the rebuild. So with the 30mm carb and the free-flowing reverse megaphones this bike goes). When I say rebuilt I mean that I replaced every bolt nut in the chassis had the frame powder coated leaving just the front and rear wheels to be done. The front wheel was torn down and painted with new bearings and stainless steel spokes in 2010 by Dave Wedlake (Portland OR). The rear wheel is completely cleaned up but still on the old paint and bearings.I rode club events and little else so the total mileage sothe year 2000 rebuilt Smith Speedo is only 4481.2. In the autumn of 2011 I came up with broken tooth - 4th gear. I had the transmission redone by a local shop and took it back twice because 3rd and 4th is sticky. He could not remedy the situation satisfactorily. I was planning on taking it to Raber's in San Jose CA to get it done right by Bob Raber but my physical problems have caused a life changing decision to give it all up. During 2014 I made these repairs/upgrades; Although not needed I did a top end rebuild so the rings and gaskets are all new (some break-in required). I got the new upgraded Amal carb new chain clutch got the headers rechromed the rocker cover and side covers were polished. I removed the tail-light set up and got a bobber styled replacement from Panic Cycles in Texas. It needs to be wired up. I was planning to have a cafe styled seat made but the stock styled bench seat is a newer replacement from Rabers. There is a small to do list before the bike is ready to start/ride; The brake light needs to be wired up and all fluids must be added including engine fluids and front fork oil. I did put in the new anti-sump valve Rabers sells but have not tested it with the engine running (as recommended) I was planning on putting in the new improved SRM oil pump but time has run out on my riding life.I've got a big file on this bike and have over $10000.00 invested in it. I know that it is still only an A65T so I am holding a pretty low reserve. But guys this is a really great runner that always turned heads and got compliments.Sold as is with no guarantees implied or made.
