Description

A REAL SURVIVOR. Here is a very rare item. 1968 Kawasaki W1 650 vertical (parallel) twin. 7349 miles. I have been involved in the vintage motorcycle community for the last twenty or so years and have seen very few of these machines ( maybe 10). When I acquired this bike it had sat for years since 1978 ( license plate that was still on it). Under the accumulated dust I could see that it was basically quite nice with one main exception: All the chrome was in pretty bad shape. The chrome on these bikes wasn't great when new and the southern humidity and time hadn't helped it any. So here is a list of what has been done to resurrect the bike to current condition NEW: gas tank knee pads petcocks fork boots passenger peg rubbers clutch cable front brake cable throttle cable clutch friction discs Buchanan's stainless spokes front/rear battery brake shoes front/rearmisc. hardware. FRESH: motor oil trans. oil clutch oil. RE-CHROMED: rims front/rear rear fender chain guard rear grab rail/ handle exhaust collars fork cap bolts kick lever assy. shifter fork lowers headlight ears both rear brake levers. Chrome bill alone was $2000+. N.O.S.: complete exhaust system ( head pipes and mufflers) front fender brace headlight assy.. Bike has the original tool kit owner's manual and repair manual. This is even the original seat! The one item I didn't address is the shocks. The new owner can decide what they want to do rechrome/rebuild or replace.I have the original title and loan/ insurance papers in the original owner's name. I can take the steps to title in my name then transfer to new owner if wanted. I just thought is was part of the neatness of this time capsule so haven't transferred it. Look closely at the pictures and ask questions. I think I have covered most everything but will answer any other questions that I can. I have only cranked the bike a dozen or so times and ridden it down the street and back since completing the resurrection but plan to ride it a little bit more to try to make sure there is nothing major I need to do.That said it IS almost 50 years old and has sat for most of that time and might need some tinkering and just to be ridden to get it back completely sorted. The bike is not a museum piece (though it isn't too far from it) but it is a VERY nice example of a VERY rare vintage bike with just enough "patina" to still be ridden and enjoyed. Now the details: Bike is sold AS IS. Please: no bidders with fewer than 10 transactions or negative feedback. No bidders outside the lower 48 states unless you contact me beforehand. All shipping costs/ arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.I am honest in my dealings and expect the same from others therefore in fairness to all please do not ask what the reserve is.Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
